Lower Campus' Weekly Update
August 21-25, 2017
K-2 Curriculum Night
Topics to be discussed:
(1) Curriculum: Give an overview of the content that will be taught in your grade level. Show the parents where to find your grade level's first semester curriculum map on the school's website. If you know what project you have coming up first, this would be a great time to introduce it to the parents.
(2) Student Handbook: There will not be hard copies of the student handbook provided this year, however, it will be on the school's website. Please show the parents where to find the student handbook and hit some of the highlights.
(3) School-based intervention: The intervention program is changing this year. Now would be a good time to go through a quick overview of the program's components. I will be creating this slide for your presentation and sending it to you to share with our families.
(4) PBIS/Behavior Management System: Explain PBIS and your classroom behavior management system with your students' families.
(5) MAP Testing/Scores (optional): It is up to you and your teammate as to whether you would like to discuss MAP with your families. Kindergarten, you may want to touch on this topic as your families are brand new to this testing.
Each grade level needs to have a sign in sheet for parents to include the parents' name, the student's name and the homeroom teacher's name. It is important to remember that Curriculum Night is not a time to have individual conferences with parents. Be sure to kindly state that you are more than happy to meet with them to discuss their child's progress when you have more time to do so. Please have a conference sign up sheet with days and times you are available to meet with parents on hand. If parents would like a conference, they have the option to sign up for one. Also, child care will not be provided to families. Be prepared to have children in attendance. If you have any questions, please ask.
