From the Desk of the Principal
September 17, 2021
Dear Masconomet Middle School Families,
We finished our first full week of school! We concluded the week with a great 7th Grade Project Adventure and Team Building day! Students participated in Project Adventure activities, large group team building fun in the gym and watched the Pixar movie Luca in the auditorium followed by a large group discussion. Students enjoyed the day very much! We look forward to 8th grade participating next week!
- September 22: 8th Grade Project Adventure and Team Building
- September 30: Open House
- October 4: Delayed School Opening, 10 AM start time
Open House takes place on Thursday, September 30 at 6:30 pm. It will be held in a remote format, so parents, guardians or caregivers will login to teacher's sessions via Blackboard. I will send out instructions next week on how to login to Blackboard.
School Safety and Preparedness
Student safety is always front of mind for us and we held our first Fire Drill this week to ensure we are prepared in the event of an emergency. Next week we will be reviewing ALICE/lockdown and shelter in place procedures with the school community to stress the importance of school safety and readiness.
School Council Positions
Representatives Needed! Masconomet Middle School has four available School Council Positions for the 2021/2022 School Year.
School Council is an advisory committee composed of parents, faculty, and school administrators. The Council meets with the MS principal on the first Thursday of the month at 3:00 pm from October through June to discuss significant educational issues and decisions affecting the middle school. The term is one year. If you are interested in serving on the School Council please send your name, address and a one paragraph statement of background and interest to:
MS Administrative Assistant to the Principal
Please also contact her or me with any questions.
All information is due by Tuesday, September 21, 2021.
Under normal circumstances we would hold an election during the Fall Open House. However, the vote will be conducted electronically this year.
A Note From the Health Office
Please refer to the Masconomet COVID-19 Protocols (revised August 31, 2021) for direction on keeping your child home when sick and for monitoring symptoms. A great resource for locating testing sites is stopthespread.org. The Tri-Town Pandemic Response Nurse will contact you should your child test positive for Covid-19.
Please contact the school nurse if you have any questions or concerns.
If you would like your child to opt-out of using hand sanitizer, please notify the nurse.
Please let me know if you have any questions and have a good weekend!

Grade 8 Social Studies classes created 9/11 remembrance walls this week in class. This one pictures the Red Team wall.
Ms. Wescott's science classes observed caterpillars transform into Monarch butterflies this week. Pictured is one of the recently emerged adults.
Here's another picture of one of the Monarch butterlies.
