News from Ms. Hess
In literacy, we discussed how readers back up to reread as a strategy to combat confusion or interruption, focused on making connections to text, and learned to use context to make inferences about the meaning of unknown words ("Yowza" words). Ask your child what message the author of the book Each Kindness was trying to teach.
In math, we learned about the three ways to write a number and will explore the properties of addition and multiplication next week. We also made good progress toward finishing our iReady math assessment which will be shared at our PLP (conferences) in October.
Students who already have instruments may begin bringing them each week on Tuesday and Friday. Whole group band is scheduled on Tuesday and Friday from 2:20 - 3:00, but will not start until most kids who plan to be in band have instruments - starting toward the end of September. Students with instruments will go for small group lessons until that time.
We are starting a penny drive next week to contribute to the Walk to End Alzheimer's. We have been invited to join a "mini-walk" with our neighbors at Colonial Manor Nursing Home on September 28 at 2 pm. Contributions to the penny drive are completely voluntary. Thanks! See flier below.
Binder of Awesome!!! Look forward to seeing this again on Friday, September 27.
Learning Goals This Week:
Math: I can show what I know about math on the iReady assessment. I can explain place value, write numbers 3 ways, and subtract with accuracy.
Writing: I can generate ideas for poetry, stretch my favorite ideas, and write a rough draft of a poem.
Science: I can make, record, and communicate my observations.
Homecoming Week - NEXT WEEK! September 16 - 20
In honor of our Homecoming week, Amana students are invited to dress according to the following themes the week of September 16 - 20:
Tuesday - Rock N' Roll Day
Wednesday - Workout Day
Thursday - Highlighter / Neon Day
Friday - Clipper Pride (Blue and White!) IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN AMANA CLIPPER SHIRT - SEE THE ORDER FORM FROM THE PTO IN YOUR CHILD'S FRIDAY FOLDER!
Keep the Quote
Your child was given an orange sheet to bring in a quote (precept, adage, inspiration) that your family loves. Then we will use their quotes throughout the year. Please turn in at any time. Your child may do as many or as few as they'd like.
Magazines needed
Thanks to those who sent in magazines already!
