Welcome Back to James Monroe Elementary School

James Monroe's Mission

WE EMPOWER, ENCOURAGE AND EMBRACE EVERYONE!

James Monroe School empowers students and teachers to persevere through inquiry in a collaborative and creative environment.

We encourage an appreciation of differences, foster empathy and learn from our mistakes.

Achievements and mistakes are embraced, as we strive to succeed along our paths of learning, and give one another a reason to smile.

A message from the principal

Dear James Monroe Families,

We recognize for some of you this may be your child’s first time back at the school after more than a year of remote learning, others are new to James Monroe, and some of your children are rejoining after participating in-person last spring.

We want to assure you that we are creating a welcoming, positive and safe learning community for your children as they return to school.

We are thrilled to welcome our James Monroe community back in-person on Wednesday, September 1st at 10:30 am.

The James Monroe faculty and staff are committed to providing your children with the best and safest possible academic experience.

Best wishes for a safe and happy school year!

Warmly,

Mrs. Cyndi Tufaro, principal

Back to School Night

This year, we will be hosting a Hybrid Back to School Night for grades 1 - 5 on Tuesday, September 21st from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Parents will have the option to visit their child's classroom in-person or to join virtually. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about your child's class and the curriculum.

Teachers will send an email with information on how to login to their live presentation for those who want to join remotely.

If you are unable to join, a presentation will be emailed home for your convenience. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or principals with questions.

Technology Updates for the 21-22 School Year

  • All students will receive a district issued device. Grade 1 students will be getting new chromebooks this year.

  • The help desk can assist with any technology issues. Please submit a ticket HERE

  • We recommend purchasing optional insurance for the device which will cover all repairs and replacements for the entire year (including this summer) July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. For information on insurance, click here.

Title I

James Monroe now qualifies as a Title I school for the 2021-2022 school year. We will be sending out more information to our families about upcoming events such as Parent Meetings, Family Nights and opportunites for additional support and resources for students.

Title I programming provides resources and guidance to schools to ensure economically disadvantaged children receive a fair, equitable and high-quality education, by helping to close the academic achievement gaps.

5th grade Camp Bernie Trip

This year, our 5th grade classes will be going on a one day adventure to Camp Bernie. This day will consist of outdoor experiences, team building and confidence exercises.

Our trip is currently scheduled for October 28th. Information will be coming home soon including permission slips, physicals and recommended gear.

If you are a parent of a 5th grade student and would like to learn more information about Camp Bernie, a parent information night will be held September 15th at 7 PM. Check out the Parent Info Night website.
