American Studies Annual Invention Fair

This week, students in American Studies participated in the annual Invention Fair. As part of a unit on immigration, innovation, and industrialization, student teams explored the history behind inventions that have changed the United States. They combined technology with an old fashioned science fair vibe to share what they had learned. Each pair was responsible for a booth where they discussed the invention and its impact on American society. Many of the students produced models of their inventions - two young ladies even built their own air conditioner. "It was a fun way to learn, " several of the students said. They also shared, "We're lucky to have teachers like Mr. Bagwell and Mrs. Wells. We'd like to see them get raises in the near future."

FFA Kicks Off a New Year

Chapter Kickoff was once again a hit, with our olympic-themed games and competitions against one another. The competitions gave all of the new and upcoming members the chance to get to know our officer team and socialize with other students. We are all very diverse, but that makes all of us the unique people we are. Chapter Kickoff also gave the new members a chance to break out of their shell and get the understanding of what we are going to do throughout the year. Our FFA team would like to thank the school and all the custodians for letting us use the Commons and the gym for all of our activities. We would like to thank our advisors, Mrs. Vangosen and Mr. McMichael, for preparing the food and giving us the opportunity to conduct Chapter Kickoff. Thank you for all of the parents who came to the meeting and brought their new FFA members. Last, but not least, thank you for all of our new members coming out and learning about what FFA has in store for them. We are looking forward to a great year with you!

SHS Senior Part of Indiana All State Honor Choir

Senior Brandon Visetchaisri is representing Scottsburg High School this year as part of the Indiana All State Honor Choir.

The students who got accepted into the choir had to go through a rigorous audition process at Christian Academy of Indiana in front of a qualified All-State judge. They also had to sight read rhythms in a major scale and in a minor scale. Visetchaisri and his fellow Indiana All State Honor Choir members will be performing at the Embassy Theater in Fort Wayne on January 13-14, 2017.
