Reaching for the Stars!

Elkhart Elementary 2019-2020

Message from Kyle Johnson, Principal of Elkhart Elementary

First off let me say how grateful I am for the opportunity to be a part of Elkhart Elementary and how extremely excited I am to work with you and your student this year! I am looking forward to the 2019-2020 school year with great anticipation and I am humbled to get to be the new principal. I am excited about getting the school year started and to form relationships with the students and families of Elkhart Elementary. I know that a change in leadership can be daunting, but I can assure you that the high level of excellence you have come to expect from Elkhart Elementary will continue. I also can promise you that your student will be loved, protected and cared for here at school.

The staff and myself will do everything we can to help each student strive for excellence everyday in every way and learn to set their goals high as we Reach for the Stars!

Family

I was born as the youngest of 3 boys and raised in Dallas (Garland), TX. I attended Garland Christian Academy K-12 and then went on to Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR for undergrad. I was a part of the golf team at OBU and majored in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Business Administration. After graduating from OBU I went down to Texas A&M Univeristy (WHOOP!) in College Station and received my Master's in Kinesiology. It was while down in CS that I met my future wife, Courtney. We were married in 2008 in Palestine and then lived for a year in Dallas. In 2009 we moved back to Palestine and began teaching at Westwood Junior High. In 2011 we were blessed with our first daughter, Karstyn, and in 2013 we were blessed again with another daughter, Kinley. Karstyn is going into 2nd grade at Elkhart Elementary and Kinley will be starting kindergarten. My wife Courtney is the 8th grade U.S. History teacher right across the parking lot at Elkhart Middle School. So as you can see we believe in Elkhart ISD and we love the Elkhart community.

This will be my 11th year of education experience and I have taught 7th and 8th grade Science at Westwood and Palestine Junior High. For the last 2 years I have served as the Assistant Principal at Westwood Junior High School. I am so excited to get to the Elementary campus and to be around all of the awesome energy and zest for life that this age group brings.

Vision for 2019-2020

The theme of "Reaching for the Stars!" goes right along with my vision Elkhart Elementary for the 2019-2020 school year. My desire is to see each and every student and staff member to use everyday as an opportunity to improve. I am a big believer that you are either moving forward or backwards. There is no such thing as sitting still. I want us all to push ourselves to reach for new heights both personally and professionally. I believe that this example is set by the staff members and the students will see them pushing themselves and follow suit.

I want Elkhart Elementary to continue to be a place, where our staff and students like to come each day. I want the students to feel loved and cared for. And more than anything I want us to Have Fun! I am excited and look forward to the school year.
