Mental Health Monday for the Week of March 29, 2021
Each Monday a new coping skill is introduced to our students. Today, a strategy was introduced to the students to help them when they are stressed, anxious or overwhelmed. It is called Belly Breathing. This form of breathing is when you activate the diaphragm muscle to allow air to flow deep down into the lungs. Belly breathing can be done sitting or lying down, and eyes open or closed. As students are learning Belly Breathing, it may help to place a hand on the belly below the naval. This helps them pay attention to the rise and fall of the belly with each breath. As you inhale (3-5 seconds), let the belly expand and as you exhale (3-5 seconds), let the belly flatten. Continue to inhale and exhale at a slow controlled rate.
If you are concerned about your child and their mental health, you can contact the New Jersey Children's System of Care (CSOC): 1-877-652-7624. CSOC serves adolescents and their families with emotional and behavioral health care challenges. If you would like additional resources please contact your child’s school counselor.

REMINDER FOR STUDENT DROP OFF/PICK-UP
Under no circumstances should students be dropped off or picked up in the front of the building at the beginning or end of the school day unless for medical reasons (crutches, etc.) This area is for staff and bussing. Please use Ricketts Drive ONLY to drop off/and or pick-up your child.
AFTERNOON PICK-UP
For the safety of our students, staff, and drivers, please adhere to the following:
We will be using 3 lanes on Ricketts Drive for student pick up. (The 3 lanes from Hooper Ave will be used for pick-up and the far lane closest to the bubble will be used as a through lane for traffic.
Students should only walk in the walking lane on Ricketts Drive, located alongside the median and designated by the orange plastic stanchions.
Upon entering Ricketts Drive, please proceed slowly toward Intermediate East and park as close as possible to the car in front of you so we can utilize as much space as possible. After your child has entered your car, you will be dismissed accordingly by security once the busses have been dismissed. Please follow the crossing guard’s directions as to when you can exit onto Hooper Avenue.
Please be aware, as sometimes children will walk into the crosswalk without looking. We, as adults, must remember that the safety of our children is our number one priority.
