Iowa Grown Meal


My Meal:

Chicken Fried Rice from Also, it will have strawberry jam/jelly on toast. The ingredients from this are all grown in Iowa. They also fit on ChooseMyPlate.

1. 2 cups rice- GRAIN

2. 1 chicken breast cut into small pieces- PROTEIN

3. 1/2 cup mixed vegetables (corn, peas, carrots)- VEGETABLES

4. 2 chopped green onions- VEGETABLES

5. 1 egg- DAIRY

6. 3 teaspoons sesame oil- SEASONING

7. 2 tablespoons soy sauce- SEASONING

8. 1 whole grain piece of bread- GRAIN

9. 1 jar of strawberry jelly/jam- FRUIT


1. Whisk the egg in oil in a small dish and set aside.

2. Add seasoned chicken on a wok or skillet (heat to medium-high) with 1 teaspoon of oil. Cook thoroughly and put on a plate.

3. Heat the remaining oil in the wok or skillet put mixed vegetables and chopped green onion in the wok or skillet. Stir fry for about 2 minutes.

4. Move vegetables to one side of the wok or skillet and add the egg and sesame oil mix to the center and mix.

5. Add the chicken, rice, and soy sauce to the wok or skillet and toss to mix.

6. Put in bowl

7. Cook bread in toaster as long as wanted

8. Put as much jelly or jam on the toast as you want

9. Enjoy!
