Blue Team Weekly Update
Week of 9/3-9/6
Breaking News
Author Joelle Charbonneau will visit our school on Wednesday, October 2nd to talk about her books (including her new book Verify) and her career. At the end of her appearance, she will sign books for any students who wish to purchase them. This author visit is made possible by Webster Groves’ independent bookstore THE NOVEL NEIGHBOR, and Verify (discounted, no tax) is available for this visit only through them. LINK FOR BOOK ORDER FORM
All students had Family meetings on Wednesday where they received the WGSD Discipline Policies and learned proper etiquette for sending an email to a teacher when they need something. We encourage all students to utilize email for questions, concerns, or ideas they would like to discuss with teachers, but may not have the time to do during class. All teachers are preloaded in students’ wgcloud accounts, so if they start typing a name in the address bar, the teacher’s name should pop up.

In ELA this week we began using the Notice & Note Signposts method to help us to recognize when we should slow down as readers and take note of what the author is trying to show us. We began with Contrasts & Contradictions so students should be able to notice when a character does something that contrasts with who we know them to be, and then stop to think, “Why is the character doing that?” This helps us to make inferences and predictions.
Our first novel was due on Wednesday. Students will be required to read two books each month for the rest of the school year.
I will be turning in Scholastic book orders on Friday, September 13th. If you are interested in placing an order, please do so before then. Thanks!
