Pennies for Patients Fundraising Campaign
Hello Thorpe Creek Families!
Student Council will be collecting donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society from April 18-25th through our Pennies for Patients fundraiser! If you would like to learn more about where our donations are going, check out this video: https://youtu.be/8PluE1SoNmw
All students will bring home a small box to collect their donations in and bring back to school any time between now and April 25th. There is also an option to donate online at this website: http://events.lls.org/pages/in/ThorpeCreekElementarySchool-2019
We are looking forward to seeing what a difference our “Thorpe Creek Squad” can make in the lives of so many superheroes!
Sincerely,
TCE Student Council
Reusable containers
Hi TCE Cardinals!
Did you know that bringing reusable containers for your daily snack and in your lunchbox is better than using plastic baggies? We have learned that plastic
baggies take 500-1,000 years to decompose. We are recycling the plastic baggies, but bringing a reusable container is better for the Earth! Try to use more
reusable containers than plastic baggies.
Thank you for helping us change the world by reducing one plastic baggie at a time!

Daily Snacks
Please consider sending a snack to school with your child each day. Our approved list (to keep all of our Cardinals safe - especially those living with food allergies) include:
fruit
veggies

Skinny Popcorn
We appreciate donations for our students that are without a snack, as well. Thank you for considering!

We are Learning
Reading
This week, we talked about how authors use literary language to make the ordain, extraordinary. Soon, we will be moving on to our poetry unit in writing, and diving deeper into this topic. We also focused on how we can bring an authors story to life by recognizing the way the story is written. There might be big bolded words, italic font, large type or signals like commas or periods to tell the reader how to read the text! We practiced this in our reading.
Next week, we will begin a new unit on fairy tales!
Writing
Math
This week we continued to talk about arrays. This time we focused on reading a story problem and creating the array that would go along with it. After some practice we decided to write our own story problems and having our classmates draw the arrays that would go along with it. After wrapping up arrays we started our conversation of 3-D shapes. We went on a shape hunt and looked around for the 3-D shapes we talked about in to the classroom in the real world!
Science
This week, we started our study of weather. For weather I have decided to have the students teach each other about a type of weather they thought was interesting. We have taken a little time out of each day to research so that we are ready to teach the class about our weather this Wednesday!
