Earthquake PBL
Driving Question: How can we, as structural engineers, construct a two story house in California for Tony Stark that will withstand seismic activity?
Our Earthquake PBL project was all about how could we make a house for Tony Stark that would withstand an earthquake. We got to build a model house, make vlogs, draw blueprints, and make a map on earthquake potential in California. I learned about how different areas have different potentials for seismic activity, how to build strong structures, and that building a model home with limited materials is not as easy as it looks.
30 Hands Project
In this project, I learned how to use the 30 Hands app and all about global climate change and the Greenhouse Effect. I got to make a script and use Pic Collage. My favorite part of this project was creating my Pic Collages.
Invention Convention
My invention was to build a water filter to eliminate trash going into the ocean. Our invention works by having mesh block out all of that larger pieces of trash and a filter that takes out all of the microscopic and tinier pieces of trash. The trash is sent to a landfill or a recycling center. Our invention is powered by hydroelectric energy which is energy produced by flowing water.

My Favorite Unit (Extra Credit)
My favorite unit in science was Weathering, Erosion, and Deposition. I liked learning about chemical and mechanical weathering. I liked that we got to create a drawing for all of the mechanical and chemical weathering because this helps me understand things much better. We learned about wind and erosion. My favorite activity was taking pictures and using Pic Collage with chemical and mechanical weathering.
