Principal Pattiey's Post
Some thoughts for this Week
Edition #18
Hello SHS Family,
It's the final countdown!! (Cheers to you if when you read that you heard the 80's Rock hit. LOL)
Five more days of learning and fun. Five more days of Elf mischief. Five more days of reading with friends. We have so many learning opportunities packed into the next five days.
Movie night was awesome. The turn-out was incredible. SHS community is so special, and I love seeing the community come together. Santa visited Saturday, and as I was unable to attend I hope a good time was had by all and that all of the SHS community was NICE and there was no naughtiness for Santa to see.
We are continuing to see an uptick in illnesses. As many of us have important family time coming up on the horizon, the need for additional hand-washing, good sneezing and coughing practices, healthy eating, and getting enough sleep looms large. Remember that scientists are now saying that one hour before bedtime we should all (especially our littles) stop looking at electronic screens of any type. If you aren't familiar with these scientific studies here is a link for your to check-out.
Friday, December 22, at 8:20 we are having a Holiday Sing in the Cafeteria. Many of your students may have told you that they are performing, and while you are always invited to join us for our fun, the students are not performing in a traditional way. Each grade level of more than 100 students is learning the same song. The students will stand-up and sing it for the group. As I said you are always invited to join us. I just want to make sure you aren't expecting to be able to see y our child. They will be all huddled together and not set-up to be seen or photographed.
Finally, I want to remind you of the importance of reading with (or too) your kiddos during this family time. Two weeks without instruction can cause certain littles to slip backwards with new skills, and/or more importantly, fall out of the habit of academically challenging their growing brains. A special seasonal book each night can help remind students the reason that school pauses this time of year while also keeping their brains challenged and engaged. Family board games, sing-along with the family/radio, and cooperative activities such as cooking and writing notes to relatives are other ways to keep that precious brain developing and maturing.'
I wish you all happiness and valuable family time. Stay safe and remember that if you are lacking in family nearby, you always are a member of the the great SHS village, and we are there for you.
It takes a village........
