Why should we read? Did you know....
*that the more students read for fun at home the higher their reading scores?
*that children in the 90th percentile read on average 21 minutes a day, which translates to 1.8 million words per year, compared to children in the 50th percentile who read just 4.6 minutes a day?
*that where parent involvement is low, the classroom mean average is 46 points below the nation average?

Let's Have A Reading Contest!
*Read for 15 minutes each school day (Monday - Friday) from February 1 - 27. We do not have school February 13 or 16, so that should be a monthly total of 270 minutes.
*Fill out the reading log each time you read for at least 15 minutes outside of school.
*Scan your reading log and kmail it to your homeroom teacher no later than Friday, February 27 at 4:00.
*Each student who has at least 270 minutes logged on their form will be entered into a drawing for a $20 gift card from Barnes and Nobles.
*There will be one winner per homeroom teacher. Winners will be announced during our March is Reading Month Assembly on March 2.

Printable Reading Log
Each time your student reads for 15 minutes they need to fill out this reading log. They need the book title, date, pages read, and a learning coach's signature. You do not need to fill out the "home" column.
