KANSAS SPRING TESTING DATES
2023-24 KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN
We are pleased to welcome kindergarten students and their families to schools across the Shawnee Mission School District. The Shawnee Mission School District offers full-day kindergarten at each of the district's 34 elementary schools. Recognizing children are eager to discover and explore the world around them, there are many positive learning and social behavioral benefits for children who attend full-day kindergarten programs.
By Kansas statute, children must be age 5 on or before Aug. 31 to be eligible for Kindergarten enrollment.
Please pass this information along to neighbors or family members who have children entering kindergarten this fall.
Planning ahead - Kindergarten Round-up is April 20 from 6:00-7:30 pm.

Bullying app in SMSD
As a building principal, we strongly feel like we can not help your kids if we do not know what is going on. If you need to report an incidence of bullying, school safety or a concern, you always have the option to report through our SPRIGEO app. The app is downloaded on every student iPad or click on this link to access from any other device. All reporting is anonymous so the more information you submit, the easier it is to follow up.
TRANSFER INFORMATION FOR 2023-2024
The first transfer window, for current students in Kindergarten through 11th grade, is set to open on March 1, 2023, for the 2023-2024 school year.
The transfer window is the period of time when a student can apply to transfer from their home school (determined by place of residence) to a different school.
If your student is currently approved for transfer to another school location, you do not need to reapply.
There are two separate transfer request windows in the Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD). The first is for students currently enrolled in grades K-11. A later window will open for incoming Kindergarten students. Please be aware that due to high enrollment, the following schools WILL NOT be accepting new transfer requests for the 2023-2024 school year:
Briarwood, Brookridge, Corinth, Tomahawk (closed with the exception of transfers from Briarwood)
Transfer Window Dates and Info
For SMSD students currently enrolled in grades K-11:
The transfer window will be from 12:00 a.m. March 1, 2023 to 11:59 p.m. on April 30, 2023.
All In-District transfer requests will be submitted electronically using the Skyward Family Access system.
Please note that any students currently approved for transfer to another school location do not need to reapply.
For SMSD students entering Kindergarten in the 23-24 school year
The transfer window will open at 12:00 a.m. on July 7, 2023. The application must be completed prior to 11:59 p.m. on July 18, 2023 to be considered in an initial approval period. The application can be found in Family Access in the Custom Forms tab.
The form will remain open through August 1, and additional transfers will be granted as classroom space allows. Initial decisions will be communicated by the end of the day on July 26, and any subsequent notifications by the end of the day on August 4.
All In-District transfer requests will be submitted electronically using the Skyward Family Access system. In order to complete the form, you MUST first complete the enrollment process in your home school through the online enrollment portal. Families submitting Kindergarten enrollment applications after school offices close on May 27 will need to email Savanna Hubbard upon the submission of your enrollment application to finalize enrollment.
