First Day of School
Morning drop off is in front of the building:
Drop off starts at 7:25 am. Please be mindful of others as you drop off in the morning. You may walk your child to their classroom on the first day of school. After the first day of school, please drop them off in the front of the school. Learning starts at 7:45 am.
Dismissal:
Students pack up to leave for the day at the 2:40 bell. Options for dismissal are bus, Metro, car rider, or walker/parent pick up.
Car riders will be dismissed to the gym. From there they will be called as parents come through the car rider line. The car rider line runs down 56th on to Robertson and through the school parking lot.
Walkers/Parent Pick Up - student are dismissed to the front walk way. There is supervision there until all students have been picked up.
Dismissal
If a change needs to made to a dismissal plan for your child(ren), call the office before 2:00 pm. Please do not email teachers or administration with these changes. We cannot guarantee that email will be read before dismissal time.
Parents are asked to assist with dismissal procedures by making certain that children are clear about dismissal plans before they enter school each morning.

OneRun
The 3rd annual District-wide OneRun fundraiser will be held at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden on Saturday, September 24th, with check-in between 8:00-8:45 a.m. The event is a 2-mile fun run/walk with an option to cheer on the sidelines as a supporter! Registration is free for everyone; participation is what will count.
Event fees will be paid by corporate and individual sponsors. Once participation totals are tallied, the money raised will be sent directly to the schools. Each participant may designate one school. The more participants and donations, the more money to the schools!

Hanawalt Community Notes
School is Starting Soon…Let’s Play!
Starting last year, we have worked with parent volunteers to provide an accessible, community-building event for each grade level to kick off the school year and help families get reacquainted. The grade level playdates are a casual way for parents to meet each other and let classmates play. We hope you can join us!
Kindergarten: Tuesday, August 9, 5:30-7 at Hanawalt
First: Sunday, August 14, 6-7 at Hanawalt
Second: Thursday, August 18, 6-7 at Hanawalt
Third: Sunday, August 14, 4- 5:30 at Hanawalt
Fourth: Thursday, August 18, 6-7 at Hanawalt
Fifth: Sunday, August 21, 4-5:30 at Frisbee Park

Get excited for our 2022 Hanawalt Block Party, a FREE family friendly event that welcomes the entire Hanawalt community! Students, siblings, and family members will enjoy free food and snow cones, carnival games, balloon animals, break dancing, a giant obstacle course and more! This event cannot happen without the help of volunteers, please consider signing up to help during the event. Thank you and we can't wait to see you there!

We have so many fun plans for next year and we need your help! Sign up now for volunteer roles. In particular, we need parents to help keep our morning drop-off running smooth. It’s a great way to pitch in for half an hour before work one morning a week.
Sign up for the Hanawalt Hawks Invitational Golf Fundraiser August 26
Hanawalt Elementary Golf Tournament fundraiser is happening on August 26, 2022. Four person scramble includes fees, cart, lunch and tee prizes. Check in is at 8:00 am with a 9:00 am shotgun start. Register to play or sign up to volunteer.
