MONDAY MORNING MUSTANG
April 20-24, 2020
DISTANCE LEARNING BEGINS TODAY! GAME DAY!
It's Gameday! We have been preparing for this moment our entire lives! Actually, about 2-3 weeks, but we are ready. Please note the following sent out from EdServices last week.
- Please post or email the weekly student learning plan to students/parents between 9:00 AM on Sunday and 9:00 AM on Monday, every week, during the Distance Learning period. The weekly student learning plan for the week of April 20 needs to be posted or emailed to students/parents between 9:00 AM Sunday, April 19, and 9:00 AM Monday, April 20.
- Starting this Friday, April 17, staff will be able to access Aeries without using the VDI staff remote access portal. You can access Aeries through our new Aeries portal: aeries.wvusd.org. You will log in using your Google account.
Please reach out to us if you need anything. This is new to all of us, so stay simple, get used to teaching from a virtual environment, and each week will get a little easier. Thank you for all you do and the work you have put in behind the scenes to pull this off!

KEVIN WENDLAND TECH Q & A: FRIDAY @ 2 PM
Student Expectations & Advice
A Message from Mike James
Mike James teaches Online Health and wanted to share one last message before we start:
"One of the things I also wanted to mention was that teachers can’t be afraid to make changes to their class. My health class today looks totally different than it did when I started it. I thought I had it pretty much wired but now I feel like I have to step it up another 5 notches. Kevin has been an AWESOME resource. I always tell him that I need to talk to him about my class. Now I’m going to make it a point to do that. One of the biggest things that I’ve learned over the time doing that class, is that there is no substitute for face to face interactions."

Day of the Teacher - Win $50
A Message from the CRTA:
As members of the California Retired teachers Association, we are committed to showing our support for public education in California by recognizing practicing teachers on the Day of the Teacher in May.
We would like to again use last year’s format to send each teacher a “Day of the Teacher” message from our organization and offer them an opportunity to enter a drawing for a $50 cash prize which they can use in any way they wish. The CRTA wants you to know how much the organization values you, and so they will have the opportunity to participate in our drawing.
Please use the "google forms link" below. We ask that the teachers respond by May 1st so that we can distribute the prizes the following week.
AP TESTING UPDATES
Please see the video below from our AP Computer Science Teacher, Nick Blackford, on how our AP Students can utilize free, live, AP review lessons delivered from teachers across the country.
SCHOOLS FIRST MESSAGE:
A message from Schools First:
I hope you are healthy and staying well. I’m your SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union representative. I wanted to share with you a flyer we recently created to let our Members know how we can serve them during this time of uncertainty. Please feel free to share the flyer with your team.
With the schools closed, we know that some employees may be affected financially. We wanted to make sure they know that their Credit Union is here for them, to help eliminate potential concerns in that area.
Thank you for all that you do.

WENDLAND TECH UPDATES
Just a couple announcements as we get ready to roll into Phase 2:
- aeries.wvusd.org is live. I sent directions this morning on how to access it, here is a screenshot of the directions
- The district flipped a switch that took away the students' ability to make a Google Meet.
- This means they can't go into the room without you starting it first. So you can just use the code generated by Google Classroom for your Meet room. Post the link before the Meeting or just tell them the time to be there. The link stays live for about 1-2 minutes after everyone has left. I tested it multiple times and it was usually right around a minute and change. I made a video showing the changes, HERE.
- If you signed up for Screencastify using the promo code, access has now been extended until May 31st.
- We also have Pro account status for EdPuzzle. Use this link to activate it, HERE. EdPuzzle is a site that allows you to post videos and embed questions during the videos. There is more information about EdPuzzle on the Distance Learning Site. Thanks to Sara Bilton for getting the school registered!
Thanks again for all your hard work. Once again the Distance Resource Site is HERE. If you have any questions, message me on Google Chat.
Distance Learning Resource Site
Kevin went ahead and put together a quick resource site for you to look at during this time before we fully transition to distance learning.
The page is broken down into some categories:
- Video/Screencasting
- Online Assessments
- Interactive Lessons
- Google Classroom
- Other sites to use
Try not to be overwhelmed during this time. Take a few minutes, read a description and then watch a few videos. When we have the Q&As next week, you can ask questions about some of the things you saw. We are still working on a webinar schedule as well that will focus on each of the topics. We'll get through this together!
Distance Learning Resource Site - HERE.
Once again, I recommend using Google Chat for messaging teams during this time instead of email or texting. It is through your Google account and can be accessed online or through an app on your phone. Information for Google Chat is HERE.
