Fall Creek Intermediate - August 3, 2018
I am very excited to begin the 2018-19 school year at FCI! This marks the 21st year in our building. During those 20 years much has changed; however, one thing has remained consistent - our focus on helping every student grow and be successful!
FCI enrollment is in the 890 range. We will have 15 fifth grade classrooms and 19 sixth grade classrooms. Please take time to read through information in the Falcon Flyer concerning the opening of school.
I look forward to seeing you at our Ice Cream Social on August 6th from 3:00-4:30pm. This is an informal time to stop in to find your classroom and enjoy an ice cream treat. There is no formal program. Opening day for students is Wednesday, August 8.

Schedules
Student schedules are active as of today (Fri., 8/2) through Family Access in Skyward. Bus information is available as well.
Supplies
Supply lists can be found on the FCI website at https://fci.hseschools.org/happenings/news/enrollment-and-supply-lists .
Remember that students may bring the basic items for the first two weeks as noted in the previous Falcon Flyer and website. Items such as their iPad (if not renting), notebook paper and pen/pencil, etc. will suffice and get them started for the year.
Please attempt to have supplies by August 20th.
First Day of School
All students will report directly to the gym after arriving at school on Wednesday, August 8th. We will welcome students, introduce teachers, and have a kick-off to the 2018-19 school year!
Upcoming 2017-18 school year dates @ FCI
- 8/6 - Annual Ice Cream Social - 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at FCI. Students may bring in any supplies to avoid doing so on the first day if they choose. Please put all items in a bag with your child's name and leave in a designated location in the homeroom.
- 8/8 - First day of school for students (All students will report to the gym.)
- 8/14 - Meet the Teacher Night (for parents) - 5th grade from 6:00pm–7:00pm; 6th grade from 7:30pm–8:30pm
2018-19 Intermediate Schedule
Please note the revised intermediate school hours throughout the district:
- Breakfast – 7:15am (Bus students will be dismissed for breakfast at 7:25am or upon arrival if after 7:25am.)
- Arrival bell – 7:35am (Students dismissed from buses and car drop-off line.)
- School begins – 7:45am (Students will be tardy after 7:45am. Parents must sign-in their child in the office after 7:45am arrival.)
- Dismissal – 2:53pm T-F; 2:33pm on Mondays
Reminders from the FCI Treasurer
- Book fees will be posted the first of September. You will receive a Skylert when those fees have been posted.
- Please reference your child's Skyward account for any charges for the 2017-18 school year.
- All free and reduced applicants must apply every year. Forms must be completed online in Skyward under the FOOD SERVICE tab. Please contact the FCI office if you need computer access to complete the forms.
Band/Orchestra Callout
There will be a brief meeting on THURSDAY, 8/9, for those students who are NOT already enrolled in band or orchestra and/or haven't already gone through the instrument fitting process.
Reminder: 1:1 Device Information
One of these back-to-school forms in Skyward is the iPad rental agreement for the upcoming year. Every elementary/intermediate/junior high school student is required to bring an iPad with them to school each day - more information on iPad specifications can be found here: https://goo.gl/qc6Xp4.
Note: FCI rented iPad distribution is currently scheduled to take place during the first or second week of school.
Destination Imagination
Participants: 3rd-12th grade students
Description: Destination Imagination® is a creative problem-solving program for students. They work on predetermined challenges that focus on STEAM principles. Teams of seven members or less work together to create, design, and present a solution that is completely student created without any adult interference. The students learn teamwork, innovation, solving problems, budgeting, presentation skills, and conflict resolution. Teams perform their solutions at a local/state/global tournament. IMPORTANT SAFETY ITEM REMINDERS
- Buzzer protocol - When you ring the buzzer for entry, remember that the office staff will ask you your name, intent, child's name/homeroom to ensure those that enter FCI should enter.
- Photo ID - Whether picking up or dropping off, please have photo ID such as your driver's license ready for identification purposes.
- Door 1 entry - All visitors must enter via door 1 regardless of time of day. Please do not come in the cafeteria door with students before school.
- Bus lot - Do not enter the bus lot prior to bus arrival or while buses are in the lot.
- Drop-off - Please make all attempts possible to have your child exit your vehicle on the side of the curb. Exit the opposite side and walking in between cars is not safe.
Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the SafeVisitor App (available for iPhones and in Google Play for all other phones) or have your badge available when you come into the school. Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in.
Upon leaving, please give your printed badge to the office staff for quick check-out.
