Mission: To Prepare Each Student for a Successful Future
Next Week: Interim Assessments
It is hard to believe, but the first quarter of the school year comes to an end next Friday, November 9! It is critical that students complete and turn in any owed assignments as soon as possible. Please keep in mind that teachers are available after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:25 to 2:55 for additional support. Please also keep in mind that you can access your student’s grades online. For more information, please click here.
Students will be engaging in the first round of interim assessments next week. An interim assessment is a cumulative assessment that measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills that have been taught in a particular course. Interim assessments are given every ten weeks in each course. These assessments provide our teachers and students with an excellent opportunity to review progress and set future learning goals. We strongly encourage you to help your child prepare for these assessments and to engage him/her in conversations about what was learned through the results (example: what knowledge or skills need to be revisited).
You can expect report cards to be mailed home the week of November 12. As always, we encourage you to contact your child’s teachers with questions or concerns about classes. Of course, Assistant Principal Matt Wendel and I are also here to provide support. Staff members can be reached at (315) 594-3100 or by email (the format of most teachers’ email addresses is the first initial of the first name followed by the full last name @nrwcs.org. Example: Nick Wojieck’s email address is nwojieck@nrwcs.org). We appreciate your support of our efforts to prepare your child for a successful future.

Red Ribbon Week was a success!
Congrats to FBLA on a successful field trip!
Homecoming was a blast!
Forum is Coming Back!
As many of you know, our school has traditionally offered a recurring Forum assembly to allow students and staff to make announcements, recognize successes, and promote a positive school culture. Scheduling challenges led us to postpone Forum for this year, but through various discussions with students and staff members, we have decided to bring Forum back. We look forward to having our school community come together each Monday for the purposes described above. Forum returns Monday, November 5, and we can’t wait!
Thanks to All Who Attended Open House!
Helping Students with Math!
Math teachers are always available to help your student during activity period on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. There are also 3-5’s through LIFT to help students with math. It is particularly important for your student to take advantage of these opportunities as we approach the 10 week mark and the first round of interim assessments.
If your student would like help completing math work or studying for math tests at home, try these websites:
MissWAlgebra – This is a great support for students taking Algebra. This YouTube channel has videos made by one of the NRW Algebra teachers. There are videos about different topics with vocabulary and strategies your student will be familiar with.
EngageNY – This is a great support for students in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, or Pre-Calculus. The modules on the left hand side of the page provide extra practice problems for students and completed examples for students to look at.
EMathInstruction – This website is a great tool for students taking Algebra, Geometry, or Algebra II. There are videos that demonstrate each topic.
MissWCalc – This is a great support for students taking AP Calculus. This YouTube channel has videos made by the NRW Calculus teacher demonstrating different skills.
Congrats, Shea!
Many of our NRW students have amazing talents that we see from day to day. There are also many talents that go unrecognized that happen outside of the building. One of our students is taking her talents beyond the NRW HS stage. Senior Shealyn Shattuck is performing the role of Sue Smith in the musical No, No, Nanette playing at Gates Hall in Pulteyville November 16th through the 25th. No, No, Nanette is a classic musical comedy when a few couples attend a cottage in Atlantic City and things get a little upside down for everyone. It’s fun, energetic and humorous! Shealyn has been traveling and working hard attending rehearsals, learning dance and musical numbers with a great cast and next to a fantastic set of directors, some of which NRW is accustom to such as Greg Maddock as director, Eric Thompson as musical director, and Jaime Akerley as choreographer! Gates Hall has a longstanding tradition of housing outstanding performances and this production is no different! There are performances on Friday (7:30p), Saturday (7:30p) and Sunday (2p) over the course of TWO weekends from November 16th through November 25th. The theater is small so get your tickets well in advance or get more information at www.gateshall.com.
Reminder to Class of 2018
A reminder to members of the Class of 2018 and their parents that senior pictures and baby pictures are due November 2. They can either be emailed to Mrs. Judge (jenniferjudge@nrwcs.org) or delivered to her personally. Please make sure the email address is typed correctly as it is different than most NRW emails.
