Next Steps- What to do after Universal Screening
Many of you are ready to use the data from Universal Screening to determine appropriate intervention for your students. Our goal is to address student specific needs. The screener gives some information, but you may have to dig deeper to determine the best intervention. Tools to use include SLAs, PASS (K-3), PWRS (K-12), or Benchmark Advance Phonological Screener (K-3+), S.P.I.R.E. Placement Test (K-5) or Benchmark Advance Foundational Skills Screener (K-6). These "Strengths of the Program" tools can help you choose interventions to meet student needs:
ILP-D
We are continuing to learn about ILP-D and communicating that to stakeholders. The most current information is housed in our canvas course. We are offering virtual office hours each week to support you with any questions/concerns about this and any other RTI2 related needs you have.

Data Meetings
"Data-based decision making is the ongoing process of collecting and analyzing a variety of appropriate data gathered through ongoing assessment to inform and drive instructional decisions. It also determines the need for interventions, re-teaching, and enrichment. The school team should have a process in place for analyzing student performance according to data to determine the most appropriate instructional pathway for each student. The process should be utilized for instructional decision making for all students. Multiple sources of data should be used to identify individual student strengths and areas of need and provide school teams with accurate information for making informed decisions about skills-specific interventions, re-teaching, and enrichment for each child. "
Response to Intervention and Instruction Manual TNDOE August 2023
Data Meetings may look different as we move forward following new state guidance. The team is tasked with matching interventions with the specific area of deficit for each student, monitoring progress and making adjustments as needed. The team needs to meet at least quarterly and after each universal screening window.

Understand Dyslexia: A Guide for Tennessee Families
This e-book was developed to be an easy to understand guide to help parents and caregivers understand what dyslexia is and how to get help for their child. It includes information about the supports and services available in the school setting and the type of reading instruction that is known to be effective. It also outlines accommodations that a child could receive in the classroom and technology tools that can help with reading and writing. This guide also reviews the Tennessee laws that are meant to help students with characteristics of dyslexia.
