Mrs. Poliszczuk's First Grade Class
weekly update
April 22, 2016
It was so nice to have beautiful weather this week and get outside for some fresh air at recess!
This week in phonics, students practiced reading and writing words with the or sound as in corn. The spellings are or, ore, and oar. We also reviewed abbreviations and adjectives that compare (-er, -est).
In reading, students read The Story of a Robot Inventor and Thomas Edison, Inventor, which are biographies. Students used the text and text features to create a sequence chain to order the major events in their lives.
In math, students continued to use a variety of strategies to solve story problems. We also took our unit 6 assessment.
In Social Studies, students created a Wixie to show what they learned about regions in the United States. Take a peek at them. They did a nice job!
Other Information
If you have not already signed and returned your child's third quarter report card envelope, please do so on Monday.
We are asking that each student bring in 3-5 photos which represent important events in their lives. Please write your child's name and age on the back of each photo and discuss each event with your child. The photos will be used as part of our end of the unit culminating activity, which is for each student to write his/her own autobiography. The photos will be returned. All photos are due by Wednesday.
We had an Earth Day assembly today. Ask your child to give you examples of what it means to "be green".
Have a wonderful weekend!
