Mahanay Scholastic Book fair goes VIRTUAL!
Dear Parents and Families:
The Scholastic Book Fair is back! While the Fair will be exclusively held online this year, we still plan on making it a fun and joyous experience for our kids. Our customized Mahanay homepage features:
- A fully Virtual Fair so you and your kids can experience the magic of the school shopping experience. Browse over 200 titles by grade, meet popular authors, and discover the comfort and joy of our Fair
- Direct access to over 6,000 additional titles with family-friendly prices, at the Scholastic online store
- Every dollar you spend will benefit our school directly (25% back in rewards!)
The Mahanay Book Fair will January 8 - January 21.

Attention Parents of Virtual 3rd and 4th Grade Learners
Attention 3rd and 4th grade parents:
If your student is learning virtually, we have the next textbooks for you to pick up for your students. Please come to the school between 9:00 and 2:00 to pick up the next textbook to be ready for the next unit in virtual learning. If you are unable to come at those times, please let your child's teacher know and we can make arrangements.
If your student is learning in-person, we will give them to them in their classrooms.
Mahanay Dress Code
- Masks are required
- Any solid color collared shirts
- Pants or knee length shorts (khaki, navy, or blue jeans)
- Dresses and skirts must be knee length (Khaki or navy)
- Fridays are college shirt day! Wear the college shirt of your choice!
- Mahanay School Shirts can be worn any day of the week.
- Jeans may be worn with a Mahanay School Shirt any day of the week
If your child comes to school out of dress code, we will give you a call and ask you to bring the appropriate attire.
***Please allow your student to practice wearing a mask at home, so they can get used to it. They will have it on for a long time during the day at school.

Brighter Bites- Wednesday, January 13th If you signed up for Brighter Bites, then your next shipment of fruits and vegetables will be ready for pickup! You will need to come to the gym between 3:30 and 4:30 on Wednesday, January 13th. | No School- Monday, January 18th In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Alief ISD will be closed for all staff and students. | Virtual Book Fair- Now through January 21st Don't miss out on the book fair! Curbside Library for Virtual Students
Curbside library pickup days are Tuesday and Thursday. Ms. Nance, our librarian, will contact you to arrange a pickup time after you have filled out your child's preferences on the form below.
After books are returned, they are sanitized and held for a few days before being checked out to another student.

For our in-person learners, you can send money at any time. Your student can give it to their teacher or bring it to the front office before school.
For our virtual learners, please email our school secretary, Ms. Juana Lima, with your size preference. This includes the discounted shirts below. She will set up a time for you to come to the school to pay for the shirt and pick it up! Her email address is Juana.Lima-Reslan@aliefisd.net
There is no deadline to purchase shirts. They will be available until supplies last!

Reminders for In- Person Learning:
Below are some reminders:
- Devices issued by Mahanay need to be kept at school.
- Don't forget to send the chargers if you haven't already.
- Students must wear a mask daily.
- Dismissal is at 3:20.
- Car riders all have a designated number. Please help your student to remember their number. This will make dismissal go faster.
- Please update any phone numbers that have changed in case we need to contact you.
Overall, the students have done an amazing job following the new rules and procedures. Thank you, parents, for your continued support in helping to keep our students and staff healthy. Please call us with any questions or concerns.
Free and Reduced Lunch Forms Below:
If you have received a letter or email from the school district indicating that you currently receive free/reduced meals for the 2020-2021 school year, you do not need to apply.
For a speedy review and approval process, parents/guardians can apply for free/reduced meals through SchoolCafe at any time.
If you qualify, you may save hundreds of dollars throughout the school year.
Paper applications can be obtained through curbside meals pick-up. For more information, please visit www.aliefisd.net/curbside.
Tardies and Early Release
Tardies:
Students are tardy if they arrive after 7:55 am. If your child arrives after 7:55 am, they will receive a tardy pass from the front office when they walk in. Parents are no longer permitted to walk them in if they are late. You may walk them to the door, and we will help them get to class from there.
Early Release:
If you need to pick your child up from school early, please call the front office to let them know. 281-983-8355. If you call and let us know when you are close, we can get your child ready for you when you arrive.
We do still need to check your ID before we release any children. When you arrive, please come to the front door with your mask on and your ID ready to show a staff member. After we have verified your ID, we will release your student to you.
