End of Year Assessments
May and June will be very exciting as we are kicking off our end of year assessment window on May 2nd! While this might not seem exciting to most, your child's teachers and I are looking forward to this time of year as it is one that brings about much celebration for student growth! We are excited to see the assessment data as it will highlight the work your child has done this year, the support you have provided at home, and the teaching that has taken place at school each day.
There are two types of assessments that will be administered over the next few weeks:
mClass and iReady: May 2nd - 20th
Kindergarten - 5th Grade
End of Grade (EOG) Assessments: May 25 - June 8th
3rd - 5th Grade
The mClass and iReady assessments are very important, but a little more informal in regards to scheduling. Your child's teacher will begin administering the assessments on May 2nd and will wrap up by May 20th.
The EOG assessments are administered according to a very strict schedule set by the State and instructional leaders with Stanly County Schools. There is no flexibility with the EOG administration dates.
Each of these assessments is required for all students at East and must be made up if your child is absent on an administration day. The mClass and iReady are slightly easier to make up as the schedule is a bit more flexible, but the EOGs must be made up on the first day of your child's return to school after an absence. A late arrival to school (or tardy) may also require your child to make up the assessment on a later day as we cannot interrupt a testing session once it has begun.
This is important considering the fun events we have planned for the final days of the school year. If your child is absent on the day an EOG is administered, they may be required to make up the assessment on the day of our fourth quarter Merit Event, Awards Celebration, etc. Help them enjoy the final days of the year by being present and on time for school each day. Avoid scheduling doctor appointments, family events, early checkouts, etc. for school hours on the dates below.
EOG Administration Dates - All Assessments Begin at 9:00 am
May 25 - 3rd Grade Reading
May 26 - 4th & 5th Grade Reading
June 1st - 3rd Grade Math
June 2nd - 4th & 5th Grade Math
June 3rd - 3rd Grade Read to Achieve
June 3rd - 5th Grade Science
June 7th - 3rd Grade Reading Retest
What can you do to prepare your child for the assessments?
- Ensure they are present and on time for school each day. Avoid early checkouts.
- Ensure they eat breakfast the day of the test and have a positive start to their day! Wish them the best on the test!
- Send them to school with a light jacket / sweater.
- Remind them to TAKE THEIR TIME and show their work.
- Celebrate the completion of the assessments each evening!
When will you receive your child's performance scores?
- mClass and iReady score reports will be sent home with your child on June 8th in their fourth quarter report card envelope.
- EOG scores will be shared with parents electronically, through PowerSchool, upon their release. Scores are not released immediately; you will be notified as soon as they are available.
I would like to thank you in advance for all you will do to prepare your child(ren) for the end of year assessments. Your support is vital to their success and we are excited to celebrate their growth and accomplishments! Reach out to your child's teacher with any questions and/or concerns you may have. We are always happy to help!
