January Week 3
Mrs. Fortunato’s Message
In conversation with Father Jay and some staff this week, we acknowledged that the year is progressing very quickly. In my mind there is one reason for this - our students. Thank you for your support and working together as a team to educate them. Let's make the second half of our year even better!
Recently, I was impressed with an article called "Keep a Catholic Home", and I thought I would share some thoughts based on Marc Cardaronella's book "Keep Your Kids Catholic: Sharing Your Faith and Making it Stick". The author includes some thought provoking suggestions for creating a home environment that supports and nurtures our faith. Establishing the home as a "second teacher" is an extremely effective way to reinforce our values. Religious reminders around the house help us to think of God more often. Some practical suggestions include: sacred art, statues, and crucifixes. Keeping simple, but tasteful holy reminders can strengthen our identity as Catholics. Holy water is great to have in the home too. It can be used to bless your children, tracing the sign of the cross on their foreheads with the words "May God bless you in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." You can also bless them before they leave home. Whatever you choose, please know that our faith is not reserved for church alone, but is an important part of our daily life.
Many of our 7th and 8th graders attended the March for Life in Washington DC. From what I gathered it was a wonderful experience for our student ambassadors, the chaperones and parishioners! To support the March for Life, all classes will participate in Adoration on Thursday, January 24th. We will pray for pregnant moms and their unborn babies. All are welcome to visit the church for a time of peaceful adoration.
Thank you for arriving to school on time this past week! Our elementary All School Morning Prayer is a wonderful way to start our day. Our morning prayer:
Thank you, Mary for having
visited Mexico so many years ago.
Because of that visit you are Patroness
Saint of the Americas, and we give
you the title Our Lady of Guadalupe.
You have told us that you are our Mother.
You have promised that your will protect us.
Pray for us. Amen.

Science with Mrs. Jones
7th Grade Science: Cells
The students worked in small groups and drew pictures of a cell to show Diffusion. The goal was to understand how oxygen diffuse in and carbon dioxide diffuses out.
Mrs. Smith
Mrs. Smith engaged the 8th grade students in an active discussion on Innovation. Mrs. Smith has many inventions (remember the rotary dial phone from the dinosaur era?).
During my visit I observed....
The lesson: Innovation
The goal: Choose an invention and tell how it evolved. The students used their chrome books to research their teacher-approved invention.
