Bonillas Traditional Magnet School
November Monthly Newsletter
From Ms. Ambrosio
Remember that coming up in November we have days off for Veteran's Day and the Thanksgiving Break. Right after Thanksgiving Break, we will begin our 2nd quarter Benchmark testing for students in Grades 2-5 and our Mid Year DIBELS testing for all students in Kinder-3rd grade. These assessments are very important tools that we use to determine if students are making adequate academic growth and also help us to improve our classroom instruction. You can help to encourage your child to do their very best on these tests and talk with your child's teacher if you questions regarding your students progress thus far.
Student safety is a major priority at Bonillas in addition to the daily learning that takes place. With that in mind, Friday November 9th we will have a PRACTICE lock down drill at the school. The purpose of the drill is to ensure that all staff and students know what to do in case of an emergency where we may have to be placed in lock down. We conduct these drills 2 times a year to ensure that procedures are followed and in place. The drills usually last 10 min or so, and its again simply to ensure everyone knows what to do if we ever have the unfortunate situation of having to have a real lock down on our campus.
As the weather begins to get cooler, especially in the mornings, we start to get a large collection of jackets and sweaters in our lost and found. Please make sure if your child has lost a jacket or sweater, they check the lost and found in our cafeteria for the items. At the end of the semester before we leave for Winter Break, all items that have not been claimed will be donated to Goodwill, so please be sure that you check and get any item that may belong to you! If your child is in need of a jacket, please call the office and let us know, we have a collection of plain hoodies in a variety of sizes that are available for students who may need them.
I want to thank everyone who came our for our Fall Festival, especially those parents that volunteered their time to help! It was a great event for all and its not possible without the support of our wonderful community!
Lastly I am very pleased to announce that beginning Wednesday November 14th, we will have a new School Community Liaison starting at Bonillas. Mrs. Myrla Rodriguez, will fill this role and be here as a resource to all of our families. Mrs. Rodriguez has worked for TUSD in various capacities and we are excited to have her expertise and experience. She is also a Bonillas parent, with a student currently here in 2nd grade and one student who was here previously, now attending Dodge Middle School. Please reach out to her if there is anything you or your family can use assistance with, and be looking forward to hearing from her once she starts. We are very excited to have her join our staff. Her office will be in our outside portable area, so please when you see her introduce yourself!
From the Office
Also, please help us to make arrangements for after school with your child before they come to school when at all possible. We have been receiving a lot of phone calls asking us to give students messages during the school day, which we can do, but it does interrupt instruction which is not something we want to do. Also if you do have to change arrangements please notify us as soon as possible. When we get called after 2:30 to deliver a message it becomes difficult because students and teachers are wrapping up lessons, preparing homework for the end of the day and messages very close to the end of the day are hard to relay. Thank you for your help with this.
