In the United States 443,000 people die from a tobacco-related death every year.
During the Tobacco Unit, students will learn about the parts and functions of the respiratory system, some of the harmful ingredients in cigarettes, the short & long-term consequences of tobacco use & second-hand smoke, and some of the marketing strategies of tobacco companies.
Facts About Smoking
- Every day about 3,900 American youth ages 12 to 17 try a cigarette for the first time.
- 1 out of 3 smokers begin smoking before age 14.
- Cigarette smoking is the number one cause of preventable death in the United States.
Tips for Quitting
Do you or someone you know use tobacco products? Over 70% of American smokers want to quit. START quitting today!
S = Set a quit date.
T = Tell family, friends, and coworkers that you plan to quit.
A = Anticipate and plan for the challenges you'll face while
quitting.
R = Remove cigarettes and other tobacco products from
your home, car, and work.
T = Talk to your doctor about getting help to quit.
