The Compass Rose: 12/16
Principal's Message
To the East Elementary School community:
A huge shout-out is in order for our Grade 5 band, strings, and chorus students for their performance during our Winter Concert. We were so proud of them and appreciated their hard work and practice!
Shortly after returning from winter break, we will begin our winter benchmark testing. As we had this Fall, our team will assess students in Reading and Mathematics, measuring many facets within each subject area in an effort to determine growth relative to our initial testing and to inform our targeted intervention groups.
We will not update next week, we hope you all have a wonderful winter break filled with good quality time and soft pants :)
- Mr. Hawes
Snow Gear Expectations
Families, please be advised that when snow has accumulated (within reason, 1/2 inch or more) on our fields/play areas, students are able to play in those areas if they have boots & snow pants (both are needed at the lower grades, our bigger kiddos seem to be able to manage with just the boots) on. We do not currently have snow gear for students to borrow, so in the instances in which students do not have what they need to keep them warm and dry, their play areas will be restricted to the blacktop and swings.
SEL & Wellness
We have added two new sections to our East Elementary website, providing in formation and resources related to Social Emotional Wellness and School Counseling. Please reach out if you are in need of support in these areas, our team will be more than happy to support.
We'll also be utilizing a new resource, Care Solace. We are committed to the well-being of our students, staff, and families to create a safe and healthy learning environment. In support of our ongoing commitment, we partnered with Care Solace to provide an additional layer of care for our community. Care Solace helps individuals find mental health care providers and substance use treatment centers. Their Care Companion™ team is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year to quickly connect you to carefully verified providers in your community.
Students, staff, and families may access Care Solace services in two ways:
- Call (888) 515-0595 at any time. Support is available in 200+ languages. A dedicated Care Companion™ will help you every step of the way to research options, secure appointments, and follow up to make sure it is a good fit.
- For an anonymous search, answer a few questions to get matched with an extensive list of care providers at www.caresolace.com/hinghamschools.
Care Solace is now available for use at no cost to you. They will connect you with providers accepting all medical insurances including Medicaid, Medicare, and sliding scale options for those without insurance. All information entered on the Care Solace tool is completely confidential and securely stored.
Please note, this service is an optional resource available by choice and is not mandatory to use. Care Solace is not an emergency response service or mental health services provider. In the event of a life threatening emergency, please call 9-1-1 or the National Suicide Hotline 9-8-8.
If you are interested in counseling-related services for your child, yourself, or another family member, please contact Care Solace for valuable assistance. This is a resource provided by Hingham Public Schools.
Lost & Found
We have a significant number of sweatshirts, jackets, hoodies, and hats/gloves in our Lost & Found. It is located downstairs in our cafeteria, so if you've recently inventoried and are missing some items you can encourage your student to check in with a teacher or the Main Office and we can guide them to our Lost & Found or you are welcome to swing in and check it out yourself after signing in to the office.
