Here's what's happening in MS this week!

ENGLISH
6th Grade: Book Club meeting number 3 was postponed until this Monday due to sick days, snow days, and the spelling bee. We will have our fourth Book Club meeting later in the week on Friday. On Tuesday, students will have a quiz on the homophones its and it’s. Next up, we will be learning about sentence structure!
7th Grade: Book Club meeting number 3 was postponed until this Monday due to sick days, snow days, and the spelling bee. We will have our fourth Book Club meeting later in the week on Friday. On Wednesday, students will have a quiz on the homophones affect and effect. We did not get to semicolons last week, so we will be learning about them this week!
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We will be discussing how countries meet the needs of their populations. We will be comparing quality of life and technology available in various countries.
7th Grade: We will be discussing how countries meet the needs of their populations. We will be comparing quality of life and technology available in various countries.
8th Grade: This week we will be using our critical thinking skills while learning about the causes and major events of the War of 1812. Students will also be studying for and taking a quiz on the Louisiana Purchase and the expedition of Lewis and Clark.
MATH
6th Grade: 6th graders have been learning how to reduce fractions and how to make equivalent fractions. This is helping us learn how to compare ratios. This week we will learn all about unit rates. For example, if two pounds of ground beef cost $8.96, how much does one pound cost? We will have a quiz towards the end of the week.
7th Grade: Students have been busy solving one and two step equations. If more practice is needed, please have your child log into IXL and practice. We are at the end of our module. We will continue to review next week and have a test on Wednesday.
8th Grade: 8th graders with have a quiz on Monday on solving and writing two step equations. This week we will begin learning how to solve systems of equations which will also be covered extensively in 9th grade Algebra.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: On Tuesday we will have our 4th visit from the Tip of the Mitt Watershed. Their session will focus on invasive species. We will also be continuing to work on research for our science fair projects. We have been learning about controls and variables in an experiment and we will be discussing their hypothesis for their science fair project. Students should be collecting materials and starting the actual science part of the project soon.
7th Grade: The 7th grade science class is having a ton of learning opportunities this year. Every Tuesday, students from Mrs. Vanderhart’s pre-calc class are coming in to do a mini lesson connecting science and math. On Wednesday this week, the Tip of the Mitt Watershed will be doing their next lesson. Also, we will be continuing our work on our science fair project. The students should be collecting materials and starting the actual science part of the project soon.
8th Grade: Starting Monday, 8th graders will be participating in the Willing to Wait program from Moms and Tots. On Tuesday we will have our 4th visit from the Tip of the Mitt Watershed.
