Keeping You Linc'd In!!!

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Lincoln Community,

Spring Break will be here before you know it, and hopefully the time will fly by quickly as we have a busy month of March ahead.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are set for the afternoon and early evening of Tuesday, March 10th. These conferences are typically scheduled by core teacher request. Elective teachers will be available during that time for drop-in discussions.

See below for more information about the spring musical - Shrek Jr. We are very excited for this second annual production that involves so many of our students. Buy your tickets soon to ensure availability.

The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), an assessment for all students in Illinois, will be administered in District 64 from April 6-17. Eighth-grade students will also take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) on March 16th and 17th.

The best preparation for the IAR has been the quality instruction our teachers have provided throughout the school year. However, there are things you can also do to promote your child’s success:

  • Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before each day of testing.

  • Provide your child with words of encouragement. While we don’t want our students to feel anxious about any assessment, we do want them to do their best.

  • Please send earbuds/headphones to school by Wednesday, April 1. We will be using these for the English Language Arts test and Math test. These items will be kept at school and returned at the end of testing.

  • The IAR is an online assessment and students will be using their Chromebooks to complete these tests. Please make sure your child brings his or her Chromebook to school each day, fully charged.

Below is Lincoln's schedule for test administration:

Tuesday, April 7: ELA and Math Session I

Wednesday, April 8: Session II

Thursday, April 9: ELA and Math Session III

If you would like to learn more about the IAR tests, click here. Thank you for your support in helping your child be prepared for upcoming testing.

Lastly, we will be rounding out the month with our second Lion Pride Assembly. This is an opportunity for us to come together as a school and to recognize the efforts of our students, spread a little positivity, and to have a little fun heading into spring break. This celebration will take place the morning of March 19th. We will share more about this in our next newsletter that comes out that same day.

Until then, please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions. We realize that there is a lot happening in the coming weeks and we want to continue to keep you informed as we move into this busy time of year.

All the best to you and your family,

Celebrating Abraham Lincoln's birthday!

Second Step Lessons - Social and Emotional Learning

Our Second Step program supports students with the social-emotional skills that developing adolescents may need as they move through their middle school years. Last month, we learned about empathy and how perspective influences decisions. Topics included the understanding of perspectives, reserving judgment, and avoiding assumptive reasoning. This month’s lesson, on March 11th, will focus on strategies for stopping harassment. The 7th-grade lesson defines gender identities and strategies for stopping gender harassment at school and in the community. The 8th-grade lesson defines the effects of sexual harassment in school and how to respond to sexual harassment when it occurs. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions.

IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness) - State Testing
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness will be administered to all students at Lincoln beginning on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. During this two-week testing window, we will be running modified schedules on testing days. These schedules are forthcoming and will be made available via the Lincoln website and communication from the school. In the meantime, we ask that you are considerate of these dates in the scheduling of vacations and/or appointments for your children during the school day. Please look for more information in the upcoming weeks.

Additionally, our 8th-grade students will take part in the Illinois Science Assessment on Monday and Tuesday, March 16-17. When we have more info, we will be sure to get communication out to you.
