Week Of October 29th

Highlights From Last Week....

This week our class read stories about how shapes help us learn. Your child learned about different shapes and how shapes are everywhere.

We learned the vocabulary words: world, decoration, games, materials and nature. Our sight word was "like" and we focused on the letter Tt.

In Math, we worked on adding one more. We wrote numerals 1-10 in order. We solved word problems by acting them out. We also worked on one less.

A peek at our learning this week...

This week our class will focus on different kinds of bugs and how they move. Children will also be reading about a variety of bugs they see in nature, including bees, ants, and butterflies.

Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.

Word Workout

  • Vocabulary: curious, observe Go outside and have your child observe different bugs. Have your child draw a picture of the bugs in a notebook and then label each one.
  • My Words to Know

High-Frequency Words: the, we, see, a, like Write each word on paper, then have your child write it. Ask your child to try to find each word in a book.

Category Words: movement words Say simple riddles that describe the different movements made by animals or insects. Have your child guess the animal or insect.

Phonics: m, a, s, p, t Draw a five-column table on a piece of paper. Write the following letters at the top of each column: m, a, s, p, t. Guide your child in thinking of words that begin with each letter. Record the words under the corresponding columns.

In Math, we will be finishing up our first unit. We will have our first unit test this week!

We had a fantastic week! I cannot believe how well your children are reading and blending the sounds of words. Keep working with your children at home, I am really seeing a difference! Thank you!

Also, if you are able to donate any Clorox wipes to our class, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

A note from Mrs. Webb

Thank you so much to the PTO for the wonderful Halloween Dance they sponsored on Friday night! I understand it was quite a success! Many of our students enjoyed this fun time! The PTO really puts forth so much time and effort to support our students and staff! They are always looking for members to do what they can to help. Think about offering some of your time or talents to this great organization! Thank you!

We are all excited about the learning we are doing in our classroom! It is wonderful to see students beginning to read words, know their letters and sounds with fluency, and count forward and backward within 10 so quickly! I will be sending home new letter fluency sheets this week. Please continue to review letter names, letter sounds, and sight words at home each day. There are so many reading logs coming in! Many students are telling me "I read a book last night!" I literally get goosebumps when I hear the excitement in their voice!

The November Scholastic book order is due on November 9th.

Mo's Fudge Fundraisers are due on November 8th! YUMMY!!!!

I will put a new bag in your child's folder for an updated change of clothes. When the new bag comes in I will return the set of clothes I have in the classroom.

Just a reminider...ACES uses a trimester report card system. Parent/Teacher conferences will be held in December and report cards will be sent home at that time.

Have a great week!

A note from Mrs. Marcoux

The children have been learning so much and I love to see their excitement when they learn something new. They have a lot to say and share.

The weather is getting chilly, please dress your child accordingly. We ask that you label their winter items as well. There are children who come in with the same coat/hats/mittens and we need to be able to tell who the items belong to if they should fall off the hook.

We are in need of Clorox wipes and black dry erase markers!

Thank you for all that you do!
