Cougar Pulse
February 2021
Dear Families,
With that being said, the planning and preparation is well underway at The Creek. We've had small groups of students in our building for limited in-person instruction since September, so we've had some time to study, practice, and refine our safety and cleanliness measures. The Oregon Department of Education released their latest update of Ready Schools, Safe Learners back on January 19th, which lays out the procedures and protocols that schools need to follow to bring students back safely. Sometime in the very near future we'll also be coordinating training for both students and families about what to expect when students return to school. More information on that is still to come from either the district office or the school.
While we are excited to see our students, we also know how much trust you're putting into us to ensure the safety of your child(ren), and we take that very seriously. School won't look exactly the same as has in the past, and we'll have to be strict with our expectations for students, staff, and families. The reward for this hard work is that students get to be on campus again!
Until next time, wishing you and your family health and happiness, and a safe return to in-person instruction in the weeks ahead.
Sincerely,
Jordon Ford
Principal

CONNECTING WITH YOUR STUDENTS ON CANVAS
I want to encourage all parents/guardians with students in grades 3-8 to pair with your students as an observer in Canvas. This is a great way to learn more about what they are doing in each of their classes, check grades, and get help. The instructions to pair are here on the Student/Parent Training Course. You can also view the Canvas instructions on how to do it. Click here for the instructions in Spanish.

Stress Busters: Supporting Positive Mental Health
Here we are at the start of the new year and the pandemic continues. The closures, restrictions, and disruptions to daily living are a constant burden and stressor. I want to emphasize the importance of supporting your student’s mental health at this time! I know that many of our students are feeling isolated. Wherever you can support a feeling of connectedness to friends, family, and community is immensely helpful.
Here is a useful visual put together by The Children’s Health Council:
Here are some specific examples of activities that will support positive mental wellness:
- Go on a walk or a hike to get some fresh air
- Journal while listening to soothing music
- Deep breathing or mindfulness exercises (The Calm Zone)
- Read to or with your child before bedtime
- Zoom or social distanced playdates at the park
- Arts and crafts (a great outlet for creativity & self expression)
- Prepare and eat healthy meals together
- Take a multivitamin (Vitamin D is great for combating the winter blues)
- Play board games together (laughter is great medicine!)
Here are a couple simple and kid friendly stress buster activities:
