The Lap-a-Thon
By: Josie
Have you ever wondered what goes into a great Lap-a-Thon? Well, here are some answers. First of all we started the Lap-a-Thon because we wanted to replace all the little fundraisers, for example the smencils. Also, the Lap-a-Thon has been going on for two years now. All the money goes to help pay for learning opportunities for all kids. The money also goes to some of the student activities. We got the idea from the Palmer Junior Middle School’s Read-a-Thon, but we wanted to do something that involves exercise. What we expect from the Lap-a-Thon is to reach our goal of fifteen dollars per student. So now maybe you know a little more about the Lap-a-Thon.
Learn about Knifty Knitters
By: Jayden
Knifty Knitters is a fundraiser. They use yarn, pom pom makers, and hooks. They donate the money, hats, and scarfs to needy people to help them stay warm in the winter. They have donated so much, that they’ve lost count. The kids have so much fun. They love it so much. Mrs. Rozzi and Ms. Lang run Knifty Knitters and love helping kids - after all they are teachers. The kids may not know it, but they are SUPER HEROES. I’m sure people love there helping hearts. A lot of people in need love you!

Sherrod's New Librarian
By: Samantha
If you haven’t already noticed, Mr. Williams is our new librarian. Last year was our beloved, Mrs. Melton’s, last year of being Sherrod’s librarian. A lot of things have changed since Mr. Williams has become our librarian. Believe it or not, he got rid of books, books that aren’t checked out a lot. This year he is focusing on reading level, and for children to choose books that are more their reading level, and having better habits. Habits like choosing books that they don’t turn in before finishing it because it didn’t catch their attention. Two of the biggest changes are, the scenery, and checking out books on our own. His hopes are for doing lots more with technology, like projects on google classroom. More books are a big thing. The last thing is, especially, more bean bag chairs. This year will bring great times, Mrs. Melton will always be a Glacier Bear because, “Once a Glacier Bear, always a Glacier Bear!”

Make sure to bring proper clothes, which include; Shirt, shorts [leggings and sweatpants perfect too.] and sneakers. [Sneakers must not be used outside.] You get a grade for how prepared you are.
Drumroll please……..BASKETBALL is starting first week of October!!!! The boys start practice the 2nd and girls the 3rd! Sign up sheets will be available in the gym.
If you have been tracking your Phisycal Activity Log, then you can turn it in and get a prize. October logs will be available in the gym.
That is all the buzz the Busbey can think of. Have a great day!
Swanson's Halloween Carnival
By: Abby
Hello Glacier Bears!
Did you know the Halloween Carnival at Swanson Elementary is coming up? Mrs. Derouen is the organizer. It is a yearly event that has been going on for more than 15 years. It is a community event that teachers and parents help out with. Many people enjoy it and it is a fall treat for the kids at Swanson and Sherrod! The most popular events are the Trick-or-Treat Hall and the Angry Birds game. I agree that both of them are really fun! Haven’t you ever wondered where all the money comes from? The teachers and parents save money from previous years to buy the things they need for the coming year. The best costumes that Mrs. Derouen has seen so far are when families dress up together. I think that is nice too. The carnival is Oct. 27 on Friday at Swanson. It starts at 6:00 and ends at 8:00. We hope to see you there!
A Bit About Title 1
By: Josie and Samantha
Title 1 is the Federal government grant that helps schools with kids that need help. Students can access Title 1 every day. Everyone gets use from Title 1 too. All schools in the district that have at least 40% free or reduced lunch get Title 1 for everyone. Families can get information about Title 1, on the web, or at parent conferences. Title 1 helps Sherrod with money to buy equipment, pay Ms. Croft and Ms. Havard. We use the money to get stuff that some families can’t afford, like science boards. Title 1 supports Muffins for Moms, Donuts for Dads, family fun run, concerts, and more programs.
