Our Motto: Teaching the Mind...Nourishing the Soul
Theme for the Year - Goodness
At St. Joseph Catholic School, we are striving to become missionary disciples, recognizing the goodness of God in our lives and in the world around us, each and every day.
Our Mission and Vision Statements
Mission:
St. Joseph Catholic School provides students with a safe and prayerful learning environment, enveloped by an intimate community of active and faithful families.
Vision:
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fort Worth are committed to opening the doors so that our students can reach further than the walls that would otherwise enclose them and therefore are able to recognize and cherish the eternal and transcendental goods of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.
From the Principal
This past week, Fr. Kelley asked our students to define the term "Christology" at Mass. I was proud of the number of hands that popped up to correctly answer his question, "the study of Christ." A simple answer to a very deep subject.
Fr. Kelley explained we have faith in knowing He is our savior, but it is not enough to merely have faith if that faith never actually changes you. Faith in Christ is meant to make us better people. It is not enough to believe in God. The devil believes in God, but the devil will never be saved.
I hope that last statement stuck with our students as much as it has stuck with me. It is not by faith alone that we gain heaven, but by faith and works. A famous quote from James 2:14-17, describes this well: "What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead."
We strive at St. Joseph to teach out students to lead by example through daily prayer and acts of kindness, all to lead our students to a deeper relationship with Christ, one that changes them for a lifetime. This type of maturity, true spiritual maturity, takes time and does not happen instantly, or in isolation at the school. We work together, parents and school, to impart wisdom and virtue all along the way from preschool to eighth grade. Thank you for the opportunity to work together for your child's future.
In Christ's service,
Diane Price, M.Ed.L.

Water Walk - A Must Read!
H2O For Life - St. Joseph Catholic School Water Walk Project Completed!
Updated - Safe Environment Training Requirement
Safe Environment Certification for Adult and Teen Volunteers is REQUIRED PRIOR TO SERVING in Ministry in schools and parishes AND MUST BE RENEWED EVERY TWO YEARS. All adult volunteers are required to make a VIRTUS Profile, to complete the Volunteer Ministry Application, to authorize a criminal background check by completing an Authorization Form, to sign the Diocesan Code of Conduct, and to complete Safe Environment Training. A live training, “Safe Environment Awareness Session,” is required for all volunteers.
Log on fwdioc.org, click on Safe Environment, select Awareness Sessions and click on I need a VIRTUS Profile if you do not already have one. When you make a profile, print out the Code of Conduct and Volunteer Ministry Application when it is complete. Safe Environment Coordinators cannot see your answers and signatures. If you do not print it out, we will need a hard copy for your file. The office can provide you with the Authorization for Release of Information for the background check. This form is needed in the file so we may input your correct information into ScreeningOne. Turn in your paperwork to the school before or right after your Awareness Session. Contact Lori Zalesak in the school office with the date of your session so you can be tracked through the process and placed on the Volunteer List for the school when complete. When you are sent home a copy of your VIRTUS Completion Certificate, you are ready to volunteer in the school and at events. Contact the office if you need further information.

In the library
In the library this past week, several grades explored Follett Shelf (also called Destiny Discover), the online platform where our eBook collection is stored. We learned that the “e” in eBook means electronic and we explored the school’s digital shelf together during library. Student helpers were able to share an eBook with the class and older students practiced accessing Follett Shelf using iPads.
