Family Update - 03/29/23
Scott Dual Language Magnet
Dear Scott Families,
As March comes to a close, it's hard to believe how quickly the year is flying by. With the end of the year just around the corner, it's a good time to take stock of all our students have accomplished. Our Panthers have been busy, from their hard work and dedication to learning to their efforts in building school spirit and getting ready for their upcoming state exams! We're excited to share some highlights of what our Panthers have accomplished and eagerly look forward to what lies ahead!
Highlights
Rubix Cubes - Learning and Fun
Mrs. Curtis's students recently learned to solve the Rubik’s Cube. Solving the Cube is an exercise in technical reading, critical thinking, and perseverance. Emphasis was placed on understanding that challenging tasks are time-consuming and require patience, the ability to concentrate for long periods of time, and making positive choices when faced with a setback. After learning to solve the Cube, students created pixel mosaics and used cubes to create their designs. The focus of this portion of the activity was creativity and collaboration.
Junior Leader Readers in Kindergarten
Check out Mrs. Rain’s class! They and other PK-1st grade classes were visited by Junior Leader Reader volunteers! Thank you United Way! We so appreciate our community partners! If you or your business is interested in becoming a community partner or getting involved with our students and school please reach out to agorsuch@tps501.org!
Grade Level Spirit Days
Our Panthers really showed off on our Grade Level Spirit Day competition! This year, 3rd grade took the trophy with the theme “Medieval”. Pre-K was a VERY close second, with “Minions”. This day was so much fun!
Penny War Results!
Mr. Camacho graciously got pied in the face after earning the most money in our Penny War competition! Mr. Lumbreras got to do the honors, but also received a bit more than he was bargaining for (see video below)! We also want to extend our gratitude to Clayton Wealth Partners and US Bank for their generous contributions. Their matching donations of up to $200 each really helped us reach our fundraising goals, and they even took the time to speak to our students about the importance of saving money.
It was a fantastic event and we couldn't have done it without the support of our amazing community. Thanks again to everyone who participated!

Testing Tips
Testing Tips -
State Testing begins this week, and we all want our students to do their best! Here are a few tips to help them succeed:
Start by reminding your kids that doing well on the test is important. Encourage them to give it their all and take pride in their hard work.
Encourage students to take their time and avoid guessing. Remind them that it's better to skip a question and come back to it later than to rush and make a mistake.
Ask your students what testing strategies they have learned, such as eliminating bad answers, checking their work, and using scratch paper or a whiteboard to organize their thoughts.
Remind your students of the goals they set for themselves and ask them what their plan is to achieve those goals. Encourage them to visualize success and stay motivated throughout the test.
Finally, help your students prepare for success by getting a good night's sleep, eating a healthy breakfast, and arriving at school on time. Small steps like these can make a big difference in how they perform on test day.
With these tips, your students will be ready to tackle the test with confidence and ease. Good luck!
