Compare-Contrast Expository Essay
Day 4
Historical fiction is a popular genre because it allows readers to experience historical settings and events through the most engaging method: story. Historical figures come alive as they interact with fictional characters in these types of books, as they invite readers to examine the perspectives and situations that made these people famous. Johnny Tremain is historical fiction with a fictional main character who meets and interacts with historical figures.
Think about Johnny's age and position in society and how he was able to meet with the powerful "movers and shakers" of early America. Now, fast-forward to modern day. What situations exist today that would allow for someone like Johnny to meet and interact with famous and/ or powerful people?
Day 4-6 Assignment:
Write an expository composition that compares and contrasts Johnny's situation with a similar modern-day situation. Be sure to figure out what your thesis statement will be during the planning stages of this essay and choose your supporting details to back-up that thesis.
