Congratulations to KP STAFF
The Connecticut School Counselor Association (CSCA) has selected Megan Johnson as School Counselor of the Year for 2015! This is a prestigious and well-deserved honor that reinforces what we already know about Meg's counseling skill set, advocacy for her students and leadership. She will be honored at the state conference on May 21st.
6th Grade teacher Stacy Genova and Turquoise students were selected by the State Student Advisory Council on Education and the Commissioner of Education, as a statewide winner and awarded the 2015 Challenge to Educational Citizenship Award for their "Water Challenge" project that has raised funds for water in South Sudan. They will receive their award on June 1st.

Quest Project to Rebuild Jonathan's Dream
Hello KP parents and students,
My name is Shara Reimer and I am an 8th grade Quest student at KP. This year for my Quest Project, I am studying inclusive playgrounds. Inclusive playgrounds are special playgrounds for kids with and without disabilities. As part of my project, I am raising money for Jonathan's Dream Reimagined. Jonathan's Dream Reimagined is currently trying to raise money to rebuild Jonathan's Dream, an inclusive playground in West Hartford which had to be taken down. For the last couple of weeks, we have asked you to "save the date" for KP's International Night on Friday, May 29. The students have now received their permission slips during morning advisory. If you and your child need another copy of that permission slip. please feel free to print and sign the following attachment. On the permission slip, please make note of the country your contribution is from. All students should turn in their permission slips to their Morning Advisory teacher by Friday, May 22. "The Game Never Ends: Career Opportunities in Athletics"
Date: Monday, May 18, 2015
Time: 7:00PM – 8:00 PM
Location: Hall's Robinson Gymnasium
Save the date for what promises to be an informative evening exploring the varied employment opportunities available within the field of athletics! A panel will discuss career path options. The event is open to the public and geared toward educating high school students about athletic career paths.

Students have the opportunity to design our 2015-2016 front and/or back cover. The design must incorporate our Character Counts theme and our traits of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and Good CITIZENSHIP.
The Prize? Having their art work published on all of the student agendas (900+) and a $25 gift card.
Students should use the current planner as a guide and template for size specifications. Due May 26th!

Christine Levine, MS, JD, BCBA, and MSW. Ms. Levine will be speaking on: "Promoting better communication, social skills, play and leisure skills and increased flexibility in children with Anxiety Disorders, Autism, ADHD, Learning Disabilities and related disorders.”
It’s up to us to teach our kids how to play and be socially appropriate, but how do we do it? Please join the West Hartford SEPTO and Christine Levine in discussing the important needs of our children in communicating and socializing in our society.

West Hartford SEPTO (Special Education Parent Teacher Organization) is seeking volunteers to work in two-hour shifts to help sell water and soda at SEPTO’s booth at Celebrate! West Hartford, a two day fair held Saturday, June 6 (10AM -6PM) or Sunday, June 7 (12-6PM).
