Basket Bash
I want to thank those of you who've sent money in for the upcoming Basket Bash. We are so grateful for your support. However, less than one-quarter of the families from our class have made donations. This is going to make putting a nice basket together difficult--if not impossible. Won't you please consider helping the P.T.O.--and ultimately our class--out? The P.T.O. is relying on a $5.00 donation from each family.
NWEA/MAPS Testing
We have wrapped up our end-of-the-year NWEA/MAPS Testing. Overall, I am extremely proud of these mathematicians. Remember, in second grade students are only tested in the area of math for NWEA/MAPS. Reading tests are taken though mClass, a report you received last month. Once the NWEA/MAPS reports are available, I'll be certain to send your child's to you.
Iditarod! The Race is On!!!
Many of the mushers and their amazing teams are on the final stretch. I wish you could've been in our classroom each morning this week to see the excitement and curiosity on the children's faces as they entered the room. Many students did not even have their coats off before they grabbed an iPad to check in on their mushers. The data collection that these kiddos are doing each day would blow your mind! They are comparing temperatures, tracking miles ran and miles to go, and are creating daily leader boards. The are also practicing reading a map and are becoming proficient with both cardinal and intermediate directions. To say these kiddos are engaged in the learning is an understatement.
S.U.B.S. Visits
The presenter from Speak Up; Be Safe did a very nice job speaking to the children about ways to stay safe. She did so in a most age-appropriate way, too. A summary of her presentation is included in the Friday folder. The weekend would be a great time for you to debrief with your child about these two-day visits. Click here for more information about the program.
Scott Skypes
Author/illustrator Scott Magoon visited the second graders on Thursday by way of Skype. His illustrations are both enduring and a hoot! Ask your child which part of his presentation he or she liked the best.
Next Week's Share Topic
Free Choice!!!!! You may share whatever you choose as long as the topic has been discussed with your parents, is appropriately addressed, and has been practiced (just as should be done during regular share presentations).
