Christ Has Made Us New!!

I read an article this week on the true nature of conversion. In it, Scott James offers the reader the insight that the majority of churches in America offer a new believer the idea that post conversion one will go through a series of changes in their personal/spiritual lives that amounts to, at most, a moral and/or ethical conversion to be more "Christ-like" and then assimilate into a local church body for the remainder of their lives.

I must admit that when I first began to become actively involved in church during my teens, I too heard this message. To be fair, this is part of what occurs during conversion but, like the author, I think the Gospel takes us each further than that. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer once wrote, "When Christ calls us, he bids us to come and die." This death is a death to self. A death to the way I want to do things and the acceptance that Christ offers me something more than I could achieve on my own. The idea of conversion to Christ is not that you and I are now nice people but that we have been racially transformed into something new, something beyond our own ability to achieve. I have included the link below for those who would like to read more. God Bless!!!!!
