Panther Updates
January 13-17
Principal's Message
The Northern Area Principal PLT is reading, The Principal Influence: A Framework for Developing Leadership Capacity in Principals. This month, we are reflecting on our practices as instructional leaders. Over the next few weeks, I will collaborate with our Leadership Team to examine the following aspects of our school:
Professional Learning Teams at Pleasant Union
Coaching/Feedback
Evidence of rigorous instruction
Monitoring systems and how we track student data
In order to enhance my practice, I am going to pilot a recommendation from my readings. The text suggests that principals should spend 75% of their time in classrooms monitoring instruction. This upcoming week, please know that I will be in and out of your rooms. You do not need to stop instruction as I will be talking to students and asking them questions about their learning.
Global School Visit
On January 16, a team of teachers and administrators from Moore County Schools will visit Pleasant Union to learn more about how we incorporate global education into our instructional program. The team will visit classrooms to observe learning in action. The team will also meet with school staff to learn more about how we prepare future ready learners. At Pleasant Union we strive to be a model for rigorous, engaging learning opportunities in our district and across the state.PUE Panther Parent Night - “Wild About Learning”

Global Education
Our Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) for January is Health & Well-being. This will undoubtedly help us launch into 2020 by keeping our physical health and mental well-being a priority. Please visit the PUE Global Site for resources and ideas at your PLT creates lessons around this SDG. The Global Committee has asked that as a school we will:
- After several lessons introducing Health and Well-being, all students at PUE will develop a New Year's Resolution around the SDG of Health and Well-being.
- Teachers should display these resolutions creatively in the hallways so it sends a schoolwide message that our focus is on becoming healthier, as a school unit.
- There will also be an opportunity to have students create cards for children in the hospital. Health and well-being is more than just physical. Supporting each other and reaching out in kindness does a lot for our mental well-being!
- Cards should be completed and given to Carolyn Rich no later than January 31. She will be giving them to our parent contact for the children's hospital.
- Finally, each teacher will need to go to the UNICEF kids power ups site and create a class account. It is very similar to Go Noodle as far as providing great brain breaks where your students can get up and exercise. However, as they complete the different activities they can earn power ups points. For every 10 power ups they complete, UNICEF donates a Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) packet to a child suffering from malnutrition.
- Visit this site to set up the UNICEF Power Up page for your class.
Professional Development Plan (PDP)
Every teacher should update your PDP no later than January 31. Kiley and Kayla will email staff to set up times to meet.
Please lead your team to go through the pre-linked course list on the global site to get to their Participate Courses.
Midyear PDP requires two courses and two actions.
