Video Transcript for Staff Spotlight!
“Hello! My name is Melissa Leitheismer. My name sign is M (like sweet). A long time ago, my name sign was M on the side of the chin. My parents gave me that name sign. I grew up and when I was 17, my friends and I didn’t like the M on the chin, because it was similar to the sign for “talk” so it got changed to M, because it looks like “sweet.” I was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona; I moved here to Kansas 7 years ago.
My favorite thing about KSD is when I moved here, I saw that EVERYONE at school used ASL! I also felt as if my opinions, expertise and leadership mattered and was valued.
My favorite outdoor activity is to go camping. I love camping! It doesn’t matter if it’s the mountains, lakes, beaches, I love camping!
One fun fact about me that people don’t know...I used to be a certified educational interpreter, before I became a teacher! That’s it -- buh bye!”
