Minerals are substances that your body needs to grow and be healthy

Are inorganic, and hold on to their chemical structure

Food Sources

Two Types of Minerals-

Macrominerals, found in calcium, phosphorus, potassium, chloride

Trace minerals, iron, copper, zinc, iodine, flouride

Mineral Food Sources:

  • Milk
  • Tomatoes
  • Beans
  • Fish
  • Water
  • Eggs

Not Having enough Minerals:

Can cause diseases:

  • Blindness
  • Scurvy
  • Rickets

Having Minerals:

  • Prevents Birth Defects
  • Healthy Teeth
  • Strong Bones

Major minerals include macrominerals and trace (micro) minerals

Iron is a trace mineral, though its needed more than the other trace minerals

Not taking enough minerals cause sickness

Essential minerals are needed in a well balanced diet

Red meat is a good source of Iron, an important mineral

Amount of minerals needed don't determine their importance

Large doses of minerals may be harmful

Some amount of minerals are found in food
