Mrs. Codding's Class

Jolly Phonics

Thank you for signing and reviewing you child's sound assessment! This week we have worked on r, m, & d. Please be sure to review your sounds every night as well as read for at least 20 minutes! At this point we are also working on sound out simple words. Have your child try to sound out words like cat, hat, sit, bed and man. It would also be great practice for you and your child if you say the word and he/she tries to write down the sounds that they hear!

Another way to reinforce sounds are to ask your child questions like "What does Dog start with?" or "Let's name things that begin with the D sound?" These are easy games to play in the car while you are driving to and form practices or school.

This week we finished up our Topic counting to 5. We took our very first math test! It is coming home today. Please review it with your child. Please also keep working on looking for numbers and writing numbers at home! I am sending home a review sheet for you to use to help practice with counting and writing numbers. We have started our new topic called Comparing and order numbers 0-5. Ask your child about words like more, fewer, same as.

Book Order

I am sending home our first Scholastic Book order. You can order online or send the order form back to me with a check made out to Scholastic. Please do not send cash. Book orders are a great way to add to your home library with great, inexpensive books! Book orders will be due on Wednesday Sept 17. Thank you!

"Don't be A Bully!"

We have talked about how to be good friends this week and also how to be a defender. We decorated our door with yellow minions to say "Bullies are Despicable" and decided we do not want to have any purple minions at our school!
