HALO HIGHLIGHT - Saints Fund FAQs
Dear Saints Parents,
In 1990 a young man walked the halls of St. Louis Catholic High School. The halls echoed voices of his classmates; conversations and lunch boxes filled the orange and blue benches in the Commons, and his fellow seniors sung the alma mater loudly as they prepared to embark on a new journey. Fast forward 29 years, and the school that once was the old stomping ground for the class of 1990 is now a haven of good times and traditions.
We mailed our first Saints Fund appeal letter to around 8,000 constituents in our database, including this graduate from the class of 1990. This Saints alum answered in a big way with a $10,000 gift. When asked what inspired him to give so generously, he simply said, "I would not be the man I am today without having attended St. Louis Catholic High School. That's why I gave."
This story of philanthropy is truly inspiring and is a beacon of hope for what the future entails. Our goal for the 2018-2019 Saints Fund is $100,000, and we currently have $56,305.
Here are the 5 most frequently asked questions about The Saints Fund:
Why The Saints Fund?
By building a culture of philanthropy and eliminating transactional fundraising, we are able to reach out to the broader community to stop relying solely on our tuition dollars to make St. Louis Catholic viable and sustainable well into the future.
Where is the money going?
The money is going to the overall operating budget of the school.
Who has oversight of the budget?
The principal and finance director have oversight of the school's operating budget.
How does it affect the particular sports and clubs at St. Louis Catholic?
All coaches have submitted a budget to the principal and our athletic director. The budgets are being decided as we speak.
How will St. Louis Catholic be transparent with the funds?
Our school will be publishing an Annual Report in the fall of 2019. We recently published an infographic that featured where funds were allocated after the 2018 auction.
The next mailing will be in March. We ask that you prayerfully consider a gift to The Saints Fund and help us embrace our Saints through giving.

Legislative Youth Advisory Council Applications Open Until March 22
The Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) is now accepting applications for membership from high school students who have an interest in representing the voices of other young people around the state. LYAC is an annually appointed body composed entirely of students that addresses issues affecting the youth of Louisiana.
The purpose of LYAC is to facilitate the communication between youth and the legislature, and to give students a unique opportunity to be involved in the workings of state government. The council studies and addresses issues of importance to young people, such as education, community service, employment, strategies to increase youth participation in government, safe environments for youth, substance abuse, underage drinking, and youth health and physical fitness.
Members of the council are selected from a wide pool of applicants from around the state who display a strong interest in civic involvement. The thirty-one member body includes three student members selected from each of the congressional districts. Applicants must be between the ages of fourteen and nineteen and enrolled in a public or private high school, a home school, or participating in a GED skills program during the 2019 - 2020 school year.
The deadline for applications is March 22, 2019. The application may be accessed at civiced.louisiana.gov. Tech Talk with Melanie LeJeune
The Avenger program is one in which students are tested during their own time to become a part of a select group who help others (students & teachers) use Microsoft’s OneNote application and troubleshoot general computer issues. We use a OneNote Class notebook to share instructions and continue the training. Students begin as a OneNote Avenger but can move up to become a Tech Avenger, which indicates expertise and leadership with additional technology. Avengers earn a badge after helping 5 people and a OneNote cape for helping 10 people. They record the help they give in a Work Log in the Avenger OneNote Class notebook.
Congratulations to Eli Crawford, Grant Couste, Juliana Broussard, Luke Monlezun, and Andrew Desormeaux for earning an Avenger badge.
Congratulations to Grant Couste and Andrew Desormeaux for earning a OneNote cape.
