A Note From the Music Teacher
Welcome back. We’re having a good time in our music classes!
Mark your calendars now for our Music Concerts for the year, listed below. We’re going to be having fun in our classes learning about instruments, music styles and eras, playing instruments like the recorder and ukulele, and we will become better musicians by learning music theory and performing as a group.
We will also be going on field trips to see musical performances at Playhouse Square! I’m excited about what is coming up, and can’t wait to see you again at our concerts! Have a blessed school year!
Children's Choir & Student Cantors
St. Joan of Arc Music Ministry will be forming a new Children's Choir for Parish Masses one Sunday each month at 11:00 am Mass. Students in our PSR and Day School graded 2-8 are encouraged to attend rehearsal starting Tuesday, September 19th from 4:30 pm -5:30 pm in the church with Mr. Jon Thibo, Director of Music.
Student Cantors for our Day School Masses will still meet on Wednesday right after school until 4:00 pm in the church to prepare for those weekly Masses. Students in grades 5-8 are encouraged to participate starting Wednesday, September 13th.
If you have questions please contact Jon Thibo at Mass or jthibo@stjoanofarc.org.
A permission form will go home to be signed at the first rehearsal.
CYO UPDATE
CYO Winter Sports Report Week 5
Fall temps have set in as Crusaders continue to succeed. Here is your weekly recap!
Ladies Volleyball
3rd/4th Grade: Coach Gillen’s pride in this group of athletes is never put to the test. They may not have gotten their way with Notre Dame, but there is no shame in their game. The way this team continues to give it their all at each practice and game is more than any coach could ask for. However, don’t be fooled by their sparkly smiles. Our Lady Crusaders are all business on the court! So, sip those pumpkin spice lattes while you support our littlest Crusaders at 10:00 am on Saturday against St. Gabriel.
5th/6th Grade: 6 and 0 and two to go! Last weekend was another commanding performance by this Crusader crew with a win over Gesu. With a combination of knee-sliding saves, sensational serves and reliable returns, these athletes claimed the victory in two. While they have officially clinched a play-off spot, the season is not over yet. Next up, these athletes will face off against St. Helen on Saturday at 2:00. Remain focused and play like a team, ladies. Teamwork is definitely making this dream work!
7th/8th Grade: The elite cardiac Crusaders had the fans' hearts pumping with the most intense competition they’ve seen so far this season. Their first match against the powerful St. Paschal’s showed our passion as they pushed it to three games. But they proved victorious in the end! As if one crazy competition wasn’t enough, these athletes held strong in back-to-back matches. The second match could have gone either way, with both sides of the court competing. However, the win went to St. Mary of Chardon that day. Straighten those crowns, Crusaders. You are still the queens of the court! Enjoy having the weekend off as you prepare for your next victory!
St. Barnabas Tackle Football: While some people are carving their pumpkins, this team is carving out victories. They went head-to-head with the mighty Mater Dei last Sunday. But our grit and grind proved persistent in the end with a 37-8 win. All the SJA young men put the power and the pressure on Mater Dei. Our 8th graders proved their presence by scoring triumphant touchdowns by both Joey Holmes and Cameron Kucinic. Cam “Sack Attack” was up to his tricks with another talented quarterback sack. Sunday Fundays are winding down, so this weekend is a great time to witness this team! Join them Sunday at 3:00 as they take the field against St. Ambrose at St. Vincent St. Mary.
Cross Country:
Wow! What a weekend running at Forest Hill Park. It was a great race for the 6 boys we had running. Jameson Byre and Tyler Smith gutted out a 2-mile race that included the largest hill we have encountered racing this season. Both worked hard and pushed each other to an 11th-place finish for Jameson and a 13th-place finish for Tyler.
Brennen Kostura, Jack Wenham, Fulton Kler and Gabe Marcin ran a fast 1.5-mile race with great success. Brennen ran a fast time and secured 4th place. Jack, Fulton and Gabe each ate up the course, and all posted season-best and, quite possibly, personal records for the 1.5-mile distance.
Amazing performance by each of the boys that came to the race last Sunday. More to come, though! SJA CYO XC races at Gilmour Academy this Sunday.
