New Movie: "I Saw The Light" about Hank Williams
The story of Hank Williams began in a small town in Alabama in 1923 during the Great Depression. Times were tough, but with a lot of work his family was able to stay above the challenges. In 1937 his career began to take off when WSFA hired him to perform in a 15 minute slot time with his band the Drifting Cowboys. As WWII began the band fell apart, but Williams continued his journey and began cranking out hits such as "Hey Good Lookin'" , "Your Cheatin' Heart", and" I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry."
Despite playing at The Grand Old Opry, and multiple record deals the difficult life of a performer began to take a toll on him leading to alcoholism, drug abuse, and divorce from his wife and manager, Audrey Sheppard. Sadly on January 1st, 1953 at the young age 29 Williams passed away. He however left a very big mark on the world of Country Music, and was inducted into the County Music Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now out in theaters is a movie based on his life called, "I Saw The Light" starring Tom Hiddleson. It sounds interesting!
