What's Happening In Room 1:
This week we talked about "determining importance" when reading. Being able to identify what is/why something is important when reading really solidifies understanding.
Your child is expected to be reading for at least 20 min. per night. They all have an endless list of resources that they can be reading from: News-o-Matic, ReadTheory, Independent Reading book, News ELA, Dogonews.com ... The more they are reading and engaging in a text, the better the reader they'll become!
We're learning about geometry. This week we reviewed angles, lines, using a protractor and line symmetry. Please practice using a protractor with your child. They have an app on their iPads called Pencil Box that has this tool to practice with! Test is next week! (We also did some "body building" to practice visualizing the different types of lines! (See Picture Below!)
We finished our Career and Technology Unit and presented our work. Have your child share his/her presentation with you!
Your child has been investigating the nervous system and the process that scientists use to do experiments. See the two lessons we learned this week!
We are studying poetry, drama and prose. This week we reviewed he characteristics that define each and investigated several examples. Our assessment on this topic will be next Thursday or Friday! This week we also learned about Limericks & Biopoems. These were really fun to write!
We practiced building parallel, perpendicular and intersecting lines in math class!
We're reviewing the importance of putting forth 100% (Level 4) effort All.Of.The.Time. Many students are becoming a bit too comfortable with not giving me quality work/effort that I know they're capable of! Please help me by reminding your student about effort expectations!
Please encourage / assist your child in responding to his/her reading each night by including these strategies. This can be easily prompted by having your child choose a few to elaborate on to engage their thinking!
