Sponsors Sought for our Robotics Teams
We have a great problem - Too many students for a robotics team! This year, we have enough students to form two robotics teams, and are excited to have one team full of our young ladies! Currently, we only have enough funding to register one team. We are hoping some parents and community businesses may wish to make a donation to help us register our second team and prepare for our teams to travel to competitions.
If you are interested in making a donation, or know someone who is, please contact our Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Rowland at 395-3950 or Margie.rowland@sccpss.com.

Say Something Guidance Sessions
September is National Suicide Prevention Month. During the month, your child will take part in Say Something. During Classroom Counseling Instruction, we will discuss how to recognize warning signs, signals, and threats of potential violence and the importance of telling a trusted adult.
As a parent/caregiver, this can be a difficult subject to discuss. It can be hard to know how your child is feeling. Today, many teens and adolescents turn to online channels to express themselves, their thoughts and hopes, and their anxieties and personal feelings. Some even go as far as hinting at hurting themselves or someone else. Their friends and peers are the eyes and ears of a school and community and may see and hear these communications, but may not always understand or know what to do with that information. Say Something teaches all of this.
We encourage you to talk to your child about Say Something and share what they learned. Not only will this conversation help you to recognize any signs in your own child’s expressions, but it demonstrates to them that you also take this subject seriously and can be one of the trusted adults your child turns to if they suspect someone may need help.
We know that schools are meant to be safe places. Say Something will help equip our young people to do their part to keep our school community safe. The school and district guidelines for threats to oneself, others or the school will also be discussed.
For more information on Say Something, please visit: http://www.sandyhookpromise.org/saysomething.
Following the lessons, you can review additional resources available to your family by visiting our counselor’s website and clicking on the Resource tab. https://sites.google.com/sccpss.com/the-seahawk-counselors/home.
Congratulations Mr. James Glenn!
Our own Mr. Glenn received his ribbon for 20 years of service to the Coast Guard Auxiliary last week; quite an honor as he has served our country through the Navy and CG over the past 30 years.
In addition to his work with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, he is our Technology teacher and TSA advisor. He also serves on our Emergency Response Team, keeping us safe at school.
Thank you, Mr. Glenn, for all you do for us in our school, in our community, and for our country.
Safety First - Please Use Our Car Ramp
Students should only load into, and unload out of, cars from our official car ramp. Drivers have reported several close-calls which have occurred as students crossed from the church to the front of the school in the morning. We need to do everything possible to keep our precious children safe. Our car ramp is very efficient, especially quick in the mornings.
Please model and practice safety by only using the car ramp.
Free American Sign Lanague Classes
One of our teachers, Barbara Kartman, will be offering a free, basic course in American Sign Language on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00-5:00 in the Media Center at Marshpoint Elementary School.
Classes will meet each Wednesday beginning on September 4th and continuing through Wednesday, December 4th.
Please email Ms. Kartman if you would like to join.
What is IB All About?
Are you wondering what our IB program is all about? We will share a little bit of information each week.
Week 4
(Language)- The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is committed to supporting multilingualism as a fundamental part of increasing intercultural understanding and international-mindedness and is equally committed to extending access to an IB education for students from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. With these aims in mind, Coastal Middle School provides a framework that will ensure that students are exposed to a second IB language during their middle school years. Our IB “working language,” the language in which we communicate with our stakeholders and provide services, is English. Our “access language,” a language that has been identified as being of strategic importance to meet the IB goals and objectives to develop a more inclusive and diverse IB community, is Spanish. We refer to this language as Language B.
