2023-2024 and 2024-2025 Academic Calendar Stakeholder Feedback Surveys
It is time to gather stakeholder input on the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic calendars. Please review the linked calendars. Each calendar has three options for stakeholders to review. The “standard” option for both years follow the current calendar setup, with two early release days before fall and winter break. “Option 1” calendars have an early release day once a month. “Option 2” calendars have a mix of early release days and digital learning days. The incorporation of additional early release days will play an essential role in providing our teachers time for much-needed professional learning (PL). While PL can occur during the school day, it requires the use of substitutes or combining classes.
After reviewing the calendars, please provide feedback via this survey link. The survey for feedback will remain open through May 13. Stakeholder feedback will be reviewed and taken into consideration before a recommendation is made to the Board for approval of the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic calendars in August or September.
Class of 2023 Senior Pictures
Hey there Class of 2023 can you believe you are just a few weeks away from being seniors? Time to start thinking about all of the senior things including senior photos! This year’s senior’s photos will be taken by CADY studios. You must have your portrait taken by CADY to be included in the senior section of the yearbook. There are several photo options you can choose, but to be in the yearbook you just need the yearbook pose. This option comes with Cap and Gown pictures, and one extra ‘scene.’ You should have started receiving emails about scheduling an appointment. You can go to one of their studios OR schedule an appointment here at the high school during a Road Shoot. The closest studio, The Atlanta Studio, located at 2030 Powers Ferry Rd., Suite 520 Atlanta, Georgia 30339 (near the Braves Stadium) is accepting appointments now. It is advised that you schedule an appointment sooner rather than later so that you can get retakes if you wish.
Cady will be taking appointments online for the Decatur High Road Shoot days 90 days before the actual date. These dates include: Saturday 8/27 and Saturday 10/8. If you do not get an appointment on one of these days you will have to go to the studio to get your picture taken.
You have until November 10, either at school or at a studio, to get your photo taken for inclusion in the 2022-2023 yearbook. Please go to cady.com/schedule in order to schedule your appointment as soon as possible.
Anyone who needs financial assistance for the sitting fee should reach out to Principal Lofstrand, rlofstrand@csdecatur.net. If you have any other questions please email the yearbook sponsor Ms. Lockhart at alockhart@csdecatur.net.

Why Parents Need to Know About Reading
Extra Mile Award
Students: Do you know a teacher or CSD employee who has gone “the extra mile” this year? Nominate them for the CSD Extra Mile Award! The Extra Mile Award is an annual award that allows students to show their appreciation for the teachers or staff they feel go above and beyond what is expected of them.
Students (not parents) at any grade level can write an essay describing how their teacher (or staff member) goes the extra mile (parents can help younger children write the essay). The essays should be detailed and describe how the employee goes above and beyond.
Click here to submit a nomination. Students can also find the form any time via LaunchPad (it’s the purple icon labeled “Extra Mile Award nomination”). The deadline is May 25.
These awards will be presented at the CSD Opening Day Celebration in July.

THANK YOU DECATUR COMMUNITY!
Our snack and weekend backpack lists have been filled for the rest of the year, thanks to your generosity!
Thanks to everyone who participated in our DEF Treasure Hunt, we hope you had fun! The WINNERS of the Treasure Hunt have been chosen: Congratulations to hunting groups “Catsquad” and “The Two and Only People who say buy” who represent Winnona Park and F.AVE respectively. The winners will be contacted via email about collecting their prizes.
There are still Step Up and Class of 2022 yard signs still available! And it’s not too late to express your appreciation for a teacher or CSD staff member with a Step Up tribute: Go to www.stepupforteachers.com, make a $25 contribution and you can leave a tribute message for your favorite CSD employee. DEF will notify the honored person. For $50 you can honor two CSD staff members AND have a yard sign delivered to your Decatur address. You can also celebrate your DHS seniors with Class of 2022 yard sign. Your contributions support Teacher Innovation Grants and provide an encouraging boost that our teachers need to finish the school year! (If a contribution is a barrier, please email your tribute and request to drew@decatureducationfoundation.org.)
