DALTON MIDDLE SCHOOL
Educate. Challenge. Inspire.
World-class learning that prepares students for success in college, careers and civic life
Friday is an Early Release Day: School Dismisses at 12:15
This week was a busy week. We got right back into the swing of things when students returned on Tuesday. Students and teachers are working to finalize the learning intentions for first semester.
As expected given the Covid+ numbers in our community, we did spend a good bit of time this week following up with families in quarantine, and communicating with families about exposure. To ensure the safety of the health within our school community we remain diligent about our protocols, including mask usage, social distancing wherever possible, and hand washing. If a child tests positive and was at DMS 48 hours before the positive result, we screen for students who may have come into contact with that student. Our contact protocol is if a student spent 15 minutes or more time within 6 feet of the positive student then they are placed in quarantine. This is done out of an abundance of caution. If a student is placed in quarantine, they are considered a "virtual student" with the expectation being that they continue to participate fully in class work, Zoom meetings and assessments. If your child is placed in quarantine and anything is unclear, please be sure to contact the teacher as soon as a question arises. It is our hope that our students in quarantine continue to have a positive learning experience. I know our students are experiencing social isolation due to Covid, and time in quarantine exacerbates it. Please be sure to reach out if you believe your student is struggling academically or emotionally during this trying time.
January 12: English Language Learners' Parent Meeting is at 6:00 PM via Zoom. The link will be sent on the EL student’s Canvas account.
January 15: End of first semester and early release (12:15pm)
January 18: No school in observance of MLK holiday
January 22: Report cards mailed
ACCESS Testing Begins this week for 8th Graders
All 8th English Language Learners will take their ACCESS assessment on January 13th and should report to school. All bus routes will run on our regular schedule for both in person and virtual students.
We received some damaged pictures, so we have asked those to be reprinted. They will be sent home as soon as we receive them.
A make-up day for students wishing to have one, or virtual students, will take place in late February. I will post it in the in this memo and in Canvas announcements once we have a specific date and time.
