Welcome Back- Reminders!!

1. Review basic procedures and routines early in the day. Don't assume they will all remember them all. Their home norms are all so different, so take the time to bring everyone back to the baseline behaviors. Use anchor charts to make it more visual.
2. While some kids have had an amazing break, others may have been worried where their next meals were coming from. All of them were probably on devices way more than normal. Grounding them in self-regulation skills through social emotional learning is critical.
3.Everyone deserves patience and grace as we come back together. Use activities to rebuild the strong class communities created already this year. The main thing is to help them feel safe and wanted.
4.Give specific praise and redirection, and stay away from generalities that connect too much to subjective judgments. Being specific helps align expectations and increases understanding of expectations in a more positive way.
5.Finally, make sure YOU are mentally and physically prepared to start back up as well. Understand that there will be stress for you and that's OK. Don't overdo it. Just take one period and one day at a time! We can do this!
