January Edition
Dear Lincoln Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and healthy holiday season. I have heard many exciting stories and treasured memories that will last a lifetime! On behalf of the entire Lincoln Staff, I would like to wish you a Happy New Year! Hopefully, 2015 will prove to be a year filled with many great memories and even greater successes for you and your family!
This month we are excited to welcome our families to our First Annual Science Fair on Tuesday, January 27th from 6:00-7:00 pm. At this event, we will celebrate the great work of our Lincoln 4th & 5th Grade students. Our third grade classes will also participate in this as well, as they worked as a team to complete a science fair project to help them prepare for next year. I encourage you to attend and take some time to have fun with the family while exploring the exciting world of Science!
As we continue with the winter season, please take a moment to review district
procedures for communication about school events during inclement weather. Please
check local news channels, radio stations, and the district app for notifications regarding delayed starts or school cancellations. Keeping our students and families safe during the winter weather is always a priority.
Yours in education,
Ms. Ellis, Principal
Mr. Schultz, Assistant Principal
A Message from Our Superintendent regarding Delayed Start - Inclement Weather
Greetings R-III Families:
I want to thank those of you who provided feedback to our recent “Delayed Start Due to Inclement Weather” survey. Your voices have been heard and have proven beneficial in the initial stages of this endeavor as we continue to explore better ways to serve our students and families during challenging weather conditions.
According to those responding to the survey, 81.12% are in favor of a delayed start to the school day during instances of inclement weather. An overwhelming majority (77.71%) stated either a one or a two-hour delay would be agreeable. Based upon the results of the survey, I have recommended to the Board of Education the District utilize a two-hour delayed start when necessary. Should there be a delayed start to the school day, students will be expected to arrive at their bus stops or depart from their homes two hours after their regularly scheduled times. Survey respondents who currently utilize the District’s Latchkey Program indicated there would not be a need for before-school care with a delayed start schedule. However, on delayed start days, the program will remain available beginning at 6:00 a.m. for those students currently registered for the Latchkey Program.
Please be assured student safety is always paramount in R-III when making decisions concerning inclement weather. I, along with other District Administrators, will continue researching the viability of implementing a delayed start schedule. The delayed start schedule will be implemented only on days we think weather conditions are safe enough to permit us to do so, but will not be used in place of school closures. If and when weather and road conditions warrant, our District will close.
Yours in education,
Mark S. Penny, Ed.S.

The library is looking for donations for the AR store that the kids shop at with their AR points. Almost anything can work for the store. The kids really like stuffed animals, school supplies, small toys, novelty items, holiday items, etc. If you have anything you'd like to donate, please send it to school with your child(ren).
Six flags reading forms were sent home November 3rd. The forms are due on February 20th. No late forms will be accepted. Forms may be turned in anytime they are complete.
